There's servicing and then there's servicing.
You can have servicing done by a main dealer, or by Joe Bloggs round the corner. If your HP agreement doesn't specify anything about servicing, then you can tell them Joe Bloggs did it.
If you take the car to them for VT, take the tax disc out when you've delivered it and cash it in."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I VT'd my car in June. It was due a service which I hadn't had done. Tax was a few days before running out but had it's MOT. car was an '04 plate and repairs + interest on the finance were destroying me. Anyway, I had the opportunity to buy a car outright so I did that.
VT went through no problems, even if someone did nick the radio fascia at some point as I got a letter from the new owner asking if I had it.0 -
Oh and I had stone chips etc too. The finance company said as long as the car is in reasonable condition for it's age it's fine.0

Would thee book need to be stamped even if I said Joe Bloggs had done it? well I believe they collect the car so can I take the tax disk out now and send it off to claim it back?0

Only if your HP agreement stipulates that the vehicle has to be serviced and you have to keep a record of the services - something I very much doubt."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
brill, just got off the phone with santander regarding the tax, they said that the car will need tax for them to drive it away, if it doesn't have tax I will have to pay for a truck to come and pick it up? so how do I go about getting my tax back? follow the guy back to his yard then demand the tax disk back?0

You could do that, but personally I would tell Santander that the vehicle is untaxed and it's their problem about how they get the car back to them. Again, if your agreement doesn't say the vehicle has to be taxed, then you don't have to tax it.
Or you could offer to deliver it."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Can't drop the car off, the recovery place is in north Newcastle, I live in Sheffield, surely they'd load it onto a lorry wouldnt they? thats a lot of miles been added to the car and potential risk of accident?0

Once they have collected it, it would no longer be your concern if the vehicle was in an accident and the bank would be insured. As for the tax, if you advised there was no tax, I guess they would send a flatbed or vehicle transporter to collect.0
