Bank help

Basically stuck in a nasty ruck, bank won't extend my overdraft past 500 and every month the charges they give me push it over and so it goes on to the next month, I'm with Halifax and they say the computer says no end of...... Is there such thing as a good will month where they will cancel the charges to get you back on your feet? Heard of this kind of thing before but wondered if anyone thought it was worth a try ? Help please

  • Why blame the bank - surely you need to do 1 of 2 things - earn more or spend less.

You can certainly ask them but is there any reason why they should - after all they are a business?

Why not do something constructive and go to the debt free wannabe board - make a statement of affairs and let's see where you can save money.

Couldn't agree more with jones MUFCforever.

john1986, why do you want a bank to help you to get further into debt (by giving you a larger overdraft)????

Also, are you aware that a bank can cancel an overdraft, and recall all outstanding monies, any time they like?

I'm mot blaming the bank at all but they put them selves across as the bank will do anything to help there customers so wondered if it was worth a try, if they didn't put the charges on the there wouldn't be a problem as my account wouldnt go over so just wondered if they would help,

Because of the charges I get which are about 100 per month I can't start reducing my overdraft I'm chipping away at all my other debts very well but just can't get out of the same routine with the bank

£100 in charges is ridiculous tbh. I've often gone into Natwest and the manager always waives any un-arranged overdraft fees.

john1986, you won't get out of debt by taking out more loans / overdrafts.

All that will do is make your debt situation worse. You must get rid of your debts.

The onus is on you to spend less to avoid the charges. You might not like it but they are helping you by not allowing you to get further into debt,

Thanks for all replys I honestly think if I had a free month without the fees I'd would be ok as the last payment to come out of my account is what I owe them and that Pushes my account over and the charges begin so without that I would be ok, so only one person Thinks its worth askig for good will

As mentioned, you need to re-assess your income/expenditure otherwise you'll just end up back in this situation.
  • Think of it this way - you now have a full month to cut down your expenditure in order to take account of the bank charges.

What are you going to do in the next 30 days to help yourself?

You also mentioned that you were chipping away at other debt - how would the bank help you by robbing Peter to pay Paul?

There is only one person who can help you here - can you guess who it is?
