Came back to find a large dent on my car!

So I came back after leaving my car parked last night to find this on my door! Really can't work out how it would have happened as I am always careful parking, leaving it away from everyone else etc, and this particular time I was parked on a wide road, with the door facing the pavement. so I can only presume someone has whacked it with something!
The paint isn't even damaged either, so this leads to me to think someone has hit it with something with a clean shot, rather than accidently scrape a door against it which would have taken off paint work.

Can anyone work out what/who could have done it? how much would I be looking at for repair? is it a big job?

Might be worth your having a word with a dent removal firm before seeking a quote from a body shop - there is an outside chance they may be able tp 'push this out'. Daughter had similar dent on her Ibiza - we never worked out who/what had done it.

That's had a bash with a cricket bat. Who have you upset recently?

The wet car picture does not make the damage clear.

    Sorry,

I don't think that will push out, that is a very severe crease right in the middle. Looks sharper than a bat would do.

Go to your local car auction and speak to the resident dent/crease/paintmaster franchisee there and get him to have a look. If its not too far stretched and into the swage line it'll come out.
(Looks like a baseball bat to me, did you duck?)

Is the car a bit Kevin/Sharon?
Does it have a loud exhaust fitted?
Do you park on the footpath?

If yes to any of the above then I'd be placing bets on the nearest elderly grumpy !!!!!! with a large soft headed hammer.....

I once had this happen to me. I retured to the car only to find a very large dent in the door. I did not get it fixed. However a few month later the large dent had magically disapeared. I can only assume the heat from the sun had expenaded the steel enough for it to pop out on its own. All that was left was a small 5p sized dent.
  • Hi there

My car is a Diesel Audi A4, completely standard!

I was dropping my Girlfriend off back at Uni, 30 miles away from my house, so don’t think I would have been targeted, I didn’t have any road rage incidents or anything like that on the way down either, so don’t think someone would have followed me seeking revenge.

I don’t think her Uni house is located is the nicest of areas, not that I have ever seen any trouble, but I just get that impression.

I would have been annoyed if someone had hit their door against it and driven off, but to me it just looks like mindless vandalism for no reason at all, that’s why I’m so angry!

It was hard taking pictures with all the reflections, so sorry about that, I am going to ring a dent removal company at lunch and see what they say.

    Just annoyed!

Not wanting to concern you, but could this be an attempt to break into the car that failed? Perhaps someone was trying to smash the handle off thinking that it would pop the central locking and allow them in.

Anyway, might be a problem to pop it out but something like that could be pushed out some of the way and then filled to cover it up - filler is fine as long as it's not the complete repair, just the finishing touches. Trouble is, the metal has already expanded quite a bit to make that dent, so it's going to be quite difficult to get it back into shape.

Don't worry too much about this being based on anything you have done. People, in general, are idiots these days, with no respect for anyone else's property. Someone may well have done this for "a laugh", because damaging other peoples property is so funny. But that's a topic for a different forum.
