OS Daily - Monday 1st October 2012
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Dull, dark and raining here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway - I enjoyed but DH moaned continually, so won't be getting another, but he doesn't help out with the cooking, but he will expect me to cook, it doesn't matter if I've been busy all day and am still doing bits (like most working mum's I'm busy pretty much most of the time!). Have decided to play him at his own game, I'm going to batch cook a few different meals and freeze them, and he'll get a meal cooked by me of my choice, if he doesn't like/want that meal he can either eat it or not! If he decides not, I won't be organising anything different for him, he can if he wishes, but I also won't be clearing up after him as on the very seldom occasions that he does cook, the kitchen is always a complete tip and always stinks of fried food, as his idea of cooking involves a frying pay and 3 inches of oil! I always cook and cook a hot meal for when he comes home from work every weekday, if we're at home at the weekend I will cook a full roast normally on a Sunday and then try to cook something Sat evening but this is sometimes where I fall down in the planning - but he doesn't help but if I ask him what he would like he says " I"ll leave it to you" but then invariably moans at what I do - so will now just provide a meal without giving him a choice! Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant but I just get sick and tired of being moaned at when I do the lion's share of all the "home" things and then support him with the caravan things he takes on but then does have the capabilities of actually doing it himself, ie he has no clue at all how do deal with paperwork/admin and so I finish up doing all of that too, he can't even switch on a computer let alone use one, but he has no interest either so doesn't want to learn.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Weekend was nice to be away, and DH was out at a meeting all day Saturday so was quite nice and peaceful and had a walk to a nearby mill that has a bakery so bought some of their bread - was very tasty and was a wholemeal mix both the boys tried it and really like it so I'll be trying to have a go at home.
Work will be a manic Monday today as it's the 1st and a Monday so it will be busy, but at least it makes the day go quicker! We/re not away this next weekend but have a big meeting Sunday - hoping it turns out for the best as usual there will be some happy and some not so happy people after the meeting (it's the AGM).
Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Morning all! May I play please?
nmlc - your post reminds me about the good side to being divorced:D My ex walked out a week after my 40th birthday and the next five years were a whirwind of court cases and solicitors bills. I've just celebrated my 50th birthday, still single, and wouldn't have it any other way.
I don't work on Mondays (had to give up some hours due to health reasons) so it's my day for catching up on all the bits I didn't have time to do over the weekend. Poorly joints mean that I have to take things slowly sometimes and housework takes twice as long. I still get that 'Tuesday morning' feeling though:o
Hope your weather is better than we have here - wet, grey and windy.:j[DFW Nerd club #1142 Proud to be dealing with my debt:TDMP start date April 2012. Amount £21862:eek:April 2013 = £20414:T April 2014 = £11000 :TApril 2015 = £9500 :T April 2016 = £7200:T

Morning all, another whirlwind of a day here today. Needs cos the house is such a mess due to DIY etc!! First have school run, combined with posting my sales from ebay and amazon and then a charity shop drop off. So today is clearing the sitting room, then when ds1 comes back from his 2 hrs of school we will be off to makro so I can stock up big style.
This evening I have to pick up a beautiful red vase, then attend the PTA agm, then straight afterwards it is a beaver scout planning meeting, so I willbe out til late. Have just taken over beavers and need to tread gently as I'm a newbie on that scene! Dinner tonight willbe whatever is picked up from makro, can be a special treat for the boys as I won't have time to eat this pm!! Have good Mondays all xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all,
Been raining here all night, and looks set in for the day, good job I managed to get loads of washing dried over the weekend.
I too have a lot of Birthdays before Xmas, 12 in November alone, including my dd who will be 18 , still I am still putting money in my sistercas fund, which should help enormously :T
Day off today, (well not really I am just not going to work, will work just as hard at home), I need to give upstairs a good going over, did downstairs yesterday. I also have some office work to do and I will go and see my dad.
Pork chops for dinner, with roasties and veg, will also have them tomorrow as I found a bag full in the freezer.
Need to do an online shop too, I have done quite well the last 2 weeks, shopping came in at around £50 which is not bad for 3 of us plus the dog, I need to do the same this week if possible.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning Jackie and All Who Follow x
Plodding for me as feeling very weak and watery. Anyhow I have the Halloween look with dark rings under my eyes and white complexion. I wont need to apply make-up on the 31st:eek::eek::eek:
So making a huge effort to have an iron rich diet but not very OS. All these foods are very expensive but was shown a good recipe on MSE for a rich soup - thank you Floss. Any other ideas from OS friends?
Elona - hope your DD will be home soon.
Hester - hope you have a better week at work x
Hugs for a good day xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everyone
Busy days ahead. Have been feeling overwhelmed at what there is to do in this house to get it up to scratch in this house. But that list won't change unless I suck it up and just get in with itso starting on the Declutter of a load of kids toys. I figure the less we have to move about the better
Then it's up off the DIY shop for some things, paint, primer, sandpaper, plaster etc.
I made a cottage pie yesterday and roasted some parsnips so will be having that for tea.
Hugs and spoons all round xxxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Morning All,
Hope you had a good weekend. We did. Although Eastbourne was a nightmare Saturday. Took my scooter, and it was as if I was invisible, people everywhere:eek: Not doing that again!
Went out to a friend for dinner Saturday night. Great evening. Got a cab home as OH had too much to drink, so left the car and picked it up Sunday.
Cottage pie from the freezer tonight. Going to Docs at 10, water tablets not working, so going to see if he'll give me different ones. My ankles are like an elephants. Feel fat and frumpy at the moment:o
Physio tomorrow. My arm is getting much better, only 4 weeks on Weds so that's not too bad:T
Have a good day allI Believe in saving money!!!:T
