Battery Lives of Samsung Galaxy Ace and Ace 2 phones

Hello

I'm looking into getting my first smartphone, upgrading from a Motorola Razr, and I just don't know what to believe about all of the reviews I'm reading.

I'm a very light user, so I'll be on PAYG. I don't send many texts or make many calls, so it will mainly be used as an MP3 player. I'll possibly use it to check my Uni emails and Intranet aswell.

I was originally looking at various HTCs, but alot of reviews said the budget versions were horrendous and prone to breaking. So I started looking at Samsungs. I've got a few Samsung products, and I'm happy with them all.

My absolute maximum budget is £200, but I'd prefer not to spend that much.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Ace (~ £120) and Galaxy Ace 2 (~ £180) look very good in terms of specifications, but the battery lives are a concern. Every other review I read mentions the battery life of each phone being horrendous, the Ace moreso. I'm used to charging my phone once every three or four weeks, so I don't have anything to compare smartphones with.

Is it commonplace to charge a smartphone every day, or every few hours according to one review?

Does anyone have any experience with either of these phones? Are the battery lives really that bad?

Thanks

  • With regards to the galaxy Ace, my mother currently has one and like yourself, is a light user - sends a few texts makes a few calls etc.

The battery life is alright, can last up to a few days with minimal usage, but you'll definitely find that you'll be charging this phone more often than your current one.

Also if you're looking to buy it over the next few days then get it from Carphone Warehouse, it's £99.95 plus £10 for your first top up :)

If you wont be using it for the internet/wifi then turn off this application and the battery will last much longer.

Having said that, if you wont be using the internet you could always opt for a non-smartphone mobile which would last much longer and cost less.

I have an ace, though i do use it for FB and the like, i seem to get a days use at best, you might get more if you're using it less.

  • Thanks for the replies.

I'm more or less set on the Ace or Ace 2 now, so I just need to decide which would be better for me. I'm leaning more towards the Ace 2.

Also, thanks for the links. I've been asking around, and it seems most smartphones need charging every day or so. I wouldn't mind charging everyday, I'd just prefer not to.

So, I'm going to investigate the two phones with my new information, and hopefully get one soon.

    Thanks again. :)

I have the Ace I did buy an uprated battery for it, that lasts a little longer. Use it well for half a day and you will find the battery fades. I have a portable battery that can just boost it if needed or get a spare battery and put in your wallet.

I have Samsung Galaxy Ace (bought from CPW last month for £100).

Battery lasts 2 days if you switch off WiFi and do minimal web surfing using 3G. Once you switch on WiFi, it will discharge in half a day.

I had the Ace and the battery life was poor. Then got the Ace 2 which has a much better battery life. The Ace 2 is one of the best phones I've ever had.

People don't understand that battery life depends on usage.

Technically battery capacity is measured by mAh (milli Ampere Hour). Most smartphone batteries have 1300-1600 mAh capacity.

If you use it as a phone then battery may last 3 days easily. If you continuously keep Wifi on, you will run out of juice in few hours.
