JANUARY! I wouldn't worry, the baby might have borrowed your passport
and run of with her maths teacher by then.

I hope not but strange things do happen

Don't waste your money with the check and send - I'm quite sure that you know how to fill in your name and address. Just make sure it is signed by you at section 9, section 10 is countersigned and that the photo is certified correctly - all the instructions are in the booklet that you receive with your application.

Original documents are required - photocopies are not accepted.

well i'm glad that we used the check n send, because form was filled in correct, but our baby's photos, which we paid max spielmann to do, were cut too big, when my daughter gave them to me, i said that they was a bit bigger, than the one's we'd done for our grandson.

But then again you would think that max spielmanns would know the correct size, it wasn't a lot, but just different.

the lady checking the passport told us that she couldn't accept them, and she knew where we'd had them done, because someone else had been in that morning, with the same problem.

this resulted in me going back to max spielmanns and complaining, seems the girl who took n cut them was new to the shop and didn't know the size.

so they took some more, for free, how nice, then i had to drive 20 mins to get the person who had countersigned the passport, to sign the new photo, then back to the post office.

So glad i paid to have it checked.

If you paid for passport photos that weren't fit for purpose - eg wrong size, then they should be re-done them free of charge. You didn't have to have the photo re-certified. It's the blank photo, that gets scanned on to the passport, that has to be the correct size.

OP's date of travel is January, so plenty of time for the passport office to get in touch if anything is wrong.

we didnt' have to pay max sps for the new photos, they was sorry, as the girl who took them last week was new, and they realised that they were wrong sized, when people returned with them.
You didn't have to have the photo re-certified.

the man in the post office who was checking the passport, would not accept the wrong sized photos, told me that passport would be sent back if he sent these photos in, , and that the photos have to be re-done, and cut to the correct size.

and he told me that i needed to get the new photo re-certified. Which i did and upon return he then put the 2 new photos in.

So your saying i could have just sent the 2 new photos off without 1 of the new ones being certified.

    ?

I got sone photos done at asda today. The first ones were too big but they don't have a proper way of telling the size till they are printed. I did some more, I think these are a better size. I noticed that my little boys hand is in the corner of the photo. So I rang the passport service and asked about the the requirement for children and the women didnt really know, she just read the rules from the website. I know you cant have supporting hands. But these are his hands not mine. So wondered if post office would tell if the pictures are ok without having to use the check and send service. I have completed the form online so what else do they check.

Yes if it was the same photo - then its obvious its the same baby - no matter what size the photo is. Its the photo that gets scanned on to the data page of the passport that has to be the correct size.

The decision whether the photos are is made by the examiner at the Passport Office - If the child is under a year they will probably be fine. The photo standards aren't as strict if the child is under 6 years old. I would send them in and if they are not suitable you will be asked to send in new ones. You have plenty of time before you travel. If you do need to get new pics, the best place is somewhere like Jessops where they take the photo with a digital camera and you can see if its OK before its printed instead of paying £5 a time @ the machines. Under 6 year olds can smile in their photos :)
