Bought my HG shampoo Herbal Essences when it was on offer and should have got the conditioner at the same time (don't have a secret stash, honest!) No offers on HE that I know of and begrudge paying full price so will see how I get on with the Tresemme - tough luck if I don't like it as it is a huge bottle!
Oh dear, the shampoo of this gave me dandruff (and is notorious for that apparently), so be careful. If it's a conditioner that might be better though as you won't be using it so much"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -

I've got very fine, very straight hair. If I'm going on a night out I put rollers in but it never holds the curl for long despite using hairspray. Has anyone got any tips on that?
My hair is exactly the same Noelphobic. I do use a lightweight leave in conditioner to try and get it sleek before putting in a curl.
I found that rollers do nothing for me many years ago, I've always used a hot brush, or now, a hot air brush.
This works really well for me. I don't use it on dry hair usually, though I have used hair reviver spray to dampen my hair if it is dry.
I get my freshly washed hair to 80% dry with the hairdryer - or just air drying, then use the hot air brush to finish and style. I hold the curl with gel spray or hair spray. Usually hair spray as DS nicks gel sprays.
The brush I bought was a 200w Vidal Sassoon one, and not expensive at all. There were quite a few comments on the reviews online of it cutting out. I'm glad I didn't let it put me off.
Mine never has cut out, I'm sure it's because I quickly spotted that the air intake vents at the end of the hot air brush were sited where they could be easily covered by the hand holding the brush, causing it to cut out. (Is it only me who is surprised people didn't think of this!?) I made sure my review referred to this as a probable reason for it not working.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... another UU today from another problem area ! the face creams
UU Olay regenerist night cream 7ml wnba although this was a freebie to be honest i prefer my creams heavier than this and i thought if any thing my skin was drier after using this.Consolidated and under control 42 payments to go.:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:(:o;):p:([STRIKE]£7028.50[/STRIKE]£5990.43Aim: 35 and Debtfree0 -
will take sunday evening to catch up but wanted to pop in to declare another UU:
It was a Lush bubble bar that was a gift, but I can't remember the name of it. It was wonderful and lush bubble bars are my favouriteNo Buying Unnecessary Toiletries Challenge
TOTAL UU's in 2012: 588
Total UU's in 2013: 210
INS for 2013 starting March: 80 -
A few of each:-
UU
- Balance me Citrus and Spice travel wash - WMBA - it was part of a gift set my sister got me for my birthday, nice but probably not the nicest citrus I've tried.
- L'Occitane Rose la Reine body wash - WBA - still have some of the matching body lotion left and I like wearing this with my Jo Malone Red Roses perfume.
- Avalon tea tree oil shampoo - WMBA. If I can just make myself stay away from dairy I shouldn't need anything for dandruff - am sure it's caused by my dairy intolerance. But when my scalp flares up this does help. Doesn't smell that nice though.
- Trail size Lancome eye cream - WNBA, it's ok but nothing special given the price for a full size.
- CCS foot cream. WNBA, it does the job but so do others that smell nicer and I seem to be better at using things that smell nice.
- Small sample of L'Occitane Precious Creme - am tempted by this, it's rich but it doesn't leave the face looking greasy. But I've a lot of both full size and sample size face creams to UU first so won't be indulging for a while.
IN
- from the cover of Marie Claire another L'Occitane hand cream - the date one and from Easy Living the Cowshed grapefruit and coriander hand cream. I enjoyed reading the magazines but I can't say I needed the hand cream.
- Chanel Coromandel lipstick - totally did not need this and found I have a very similar unused red lipstick at home.
- Chanel delicatesse: Less silly purchase as I don't have one the same colour at home and it is a nice neutral shade. All the same I didn't really NEED it.
- Seche Vite, Seche Clear and Seche Plus - my OPI 2 in one base coat and top coat was going very gloopy and was quite slow drying so I don't feel too guilty about this. And the Plus might help stop my thumb nails from breaking off all the time.0 -
Welcome xcarlyx I only started the challenge 2 weeks ago and have a long time before I graduate!
No more UUs to report but I do have a couple of low/spluttering items.
Is anyone else finding the change in weather is causing their skin to flare up? I have quite sensitive skin and have scaly eczema type patches under my eyes at the moment. I tend to get that when the weather turns cold, and so am throwing all the richest facial products I own at it, in an attempt to remedy the problem.
I'm challenging myself with my makeup, which comes at a good time. I've recently stepped in to a more responsible, client facing role, and with all the overtime and house buying stress I haven't really been taking care of myself. I've turned up to work several times with a minimal amount of makeup or looking (and feeling) fairly rough.
Whilst I'm in the confessional; I am awful at taking off my makeup. I have been more consistent in taking off my makeup since taking on this challenge. I have so many partially used makeup removers lying around which was ironic I was so lazy about skin care. My skin has improved dramatically in the last two weeks and I think this is due to consistency, now I have in mind using up all my products, and make myself do it instead of being lazy. I feel the challenge has more of a holistic effect than just money saving0 -

You can either rub the sheet between your hands and then run your hands down the length of your hair or actually run the sheet itself down your hair from root to tip, I use the second method, the sheets I got were only something like 69p from HB and they smell really nice - they're damp but don't wet your hair as such. I was willing to try anything!!
With the curling, have you just washed your hair when you try and style it? Will probably hold better on day-old hair. I use velcro rollers, not for curls, just volume and find a volumising mousse helps, I'll dry my hair about 80% or so then pop them in, blast them with the dryer so the metallic insides heat up and then a bit of hairspray and leave them there while I finish getting ready.rogueylawyer wrote: »Whilst I'm in the confessional; I am awful at taking off my makeup. I'm the same, it used to be a face wipe if i remembered/could be bothered and weekends more often than not I'd go to bed with a full face of warpaint!:eek::eek:
The challenge focussed my mind on all the makeup remover, cleanser and toner I had lying around basically never used - I literally hadn't ever used a cream cleanser before and certainly not a hot cloth one! They were gifts I'd have just left gathering dust or given away. I'm a total convert now, although if I'm mega tired or pushed for time I'll still use a face wipe on the odd occasion. My skin has definitely seen the benefit, although I've never really had much in the way of outbreaks, sensitivity seems to be my main issue, its definitely improved, I hardly ever get spots and my t-zone/enlarged pores are visibly improved. Its also been fun trying new things and satisfying seeing the stash dwindle. My face has never felt cleaner than when using a hot cloth cleanser - I'm hooked!0 -

Yes, if I know I'm going to curl my hair I don't wash it that day. I have heated rollers that are a bit like rags iykwim. I put them in dry hair because I doubt my hair would actually dry otherwise and then it definitely wouldn't curl. Having said that it would make sense to try putting them in very slightly damp hair and then using a dryer. That way the curl may stay in better. It's not getting it to curl that's the problem though, it's getting the curl to stay in.
It's literally years since I used a hair dryer, probably why my hair is in generally good condition. When I was away on holiday I had my hair put up at the hairdressers for the wedding I was going to. Unfortunately I had a bad fall and had to go to hospital to get my head stitched. This meant that they had to shave some of my hair off. It had been backcombed and had loads of hairspray in so that probably meant they had to cut off more than they would otherwise. Luckily it is growing back and I have long hair and can cover the baldy bit with a side parting. Will probably take years to grow back to the length it was though, as my hair doesn't grow very fast.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
