My card is a classic, but it stated on my statement received yesterday that they will not charge me the annual fee for the next year.
It will be reviewed again in 12 months time.
I do pay of my card each month.ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -

Hello all I just want to share my experience with Morgan Stanley. What an utterly disappointing stance taken by these chaps.
I to have the MS Black (Classic, Standard, Non Platinum) Card. Although reading through the posts as the credit limit is 3900 it should be a plat card? Nevermind I cant see any real distinction (benefit) apart from the newly introduced annual fee.
Have had the card for four years now and happily collected the cash back. I would describe the card has having been my main spending card. Again paid in full at the end of the month. Never been late or gone over my limit.
I called them up this morning to ask about waiving the fee on account of my good account history and told the only way to avoid paying the annual fee is to close the account. Very dissapointed with this stance. I also voiced my displeasure in regards to the cash back as the anniversary date is early June!
I was told that I could claim my cash back now which is currently just over 30 quid. I am expecting another £5 at the end of this month to go on. However I was horrified to learn that I could only claim in multiples of £15.
So I have written to Patrick Muir (UK marketing director) and asked that if he really wants his £20 he wont be getting it from me and that he needs to give me back my cash back 100%.
Its only a fiver but the principle of the thing is what gots my goat. Seriously thinking of taking action in small claims court. If they want that £20 annual fee or steal my fiver they are going to have to bleed to get it.
Lets see what Patrick has to say to my initial "friendly" non threatening letter. And dont worry I wont be accepting their "this is our complaint procedure and we give ourselves 28 days to investigate it".0 -
I have been reading this thread and others regarding the £20 Annual Fee.
I received my Platinum Card this week, which it clearly shows platinum on the front of the card. I have also been given £1000 credit limit.
As it is stated that this card is not affected my annual charges.

Why all the confusion about platinum cards and black cards which don't have platimum written on them?
I did a quick search on this annual fee and everywhere says Black card (given to those that don't receive platinum card) and all articles are similar/same as this one:

If for some reason charges are enforced when will they likely take this fee?0 -
I sent a letter of complaint to customer services at the beginning of the month, then received a letter back first class post a few days later, basically saying thank you for writing to customer services, and the letter has been passed on, and I should expect a reply within 28 days.
Today, I received another letter by first class post, with a cheque for my missing cashback, and a letter explaining that they're sorry that I don't agree with the £20 annual fee, but it's justified to ensure they offer customer service, and cashback etc (strange that Egg can do this with no annual fee)
But after a few phone calls, and a letter of complaint (which has resulted in 2 first class letters being sent from them) I get a cheque for my missing cashback of £7.32!! Must have cost them more to investigate the matter, and write 2 letters.
Think I'll cancel tomorrow afternoon, on the last day possible. I don't mind waiting in the call queue on an 0800 number whilst loads of other people leave it till the last minute to cancel.0 -
Hey, I called up about this £20 fee and pleasantly explained that I put through over £1000 a month on the card and was less than happy about the fee. They explained that I need to cancel and reapply, but will give me the time to do this by not charging a fee for this year...
So hopefully they will grant me a Platinum card... but I think for the time being I will stick with my refunded fee black card... at least for a few more months...0 -
Well, I called up and cancelled, and the call was answered with no queue. I thought that by leaving it till the last day, they might have had so many calls, they would want to retain customers. I was asked why I wanted to cancel, so I said that it's down purely to the £20 fee, and that I would be happy to stay if the fee wasn't applied, but they chose to lose my custom instead.
I even got a letter saying they're sorry to see me go, and within the letter they reminded me to cancel and recurring bills, and after a while my account will be closed. I hope this delay in closing my account hasn't triggered a fee!! Unless they just wait a certain length of time after closing the account to allow companies with recurring bills to claim, and then close the account completely.0
