If you don't earn cashback with Egg, then chances are you're on the old Egg card, rather than the Egg Money card.

The old Egg card, is a Visa card, and the new Egg Money is a Mastercard. Have a look to see which one you have, and if you have the old one, then just apply for the new Egg Money, and get the 1% cashback without the annual fee.

Are Egg going to charge an annual fee too???

I had better call them all.

    thanks for the advise!!

Well the cancelling was quite simple. I have a feeling that they're getting a fair few cancellations due to the charge.

I was asked what my reason for cancelling was so I say "because of the introduction of the annual fee, I've other cards that don't charge me", to which I get a rather resigned reply of "Oh, yes."

They will be sending out a letter to confirm that they've cancelled the agreement. And I only ended up sacrificing 91p cashback.

I am very grateful to whoever it was pointed out that you can get the cashback whenever you've built up your £15 multiple, I forgot that they'd changed that.

So, what's the story with this Egg Money card lark? Best start investigating all the other cards out there now.

I still haven't heard anything about my Platinum card application. I wish they'd hurry up and let me know so I can apply elsewhere if necessary.

I've just looked at the Egg Money website. I guess that one reason I didn't apply for this before is that I don't understand all this "pre-pay" business. Can you just ignore all that and use this card exactly like a normal credit card?

Yes, you can use it just as a normal credit card.

No need to 'pre-pay' at all, though you will find that if your account goes into credit (for instance you return something you originally purchased on your credit card), Egg Money will pay interest on that balance.. unlike most other cards.

Further to my last post above. I guess too many people demanded to speak to management that there are not enough mangers to call people back. So instead I have received a form letter:

    Dear Mr XXXX

Thank you for you recent communication highlighting concerns you have with Morgan Stanley

I am currently investigating the matter you raised and will provide a full response in due course

Please Find Enclosed a copy of Our Complaint Handling Procedure that advises the timescales we aim to achieve.

    Yours sincerely

    Karla Kenny
    Team Manger
    Customer Liason

It has a PP signature. The enclosed procedure states that that department aims to respond in full within 28 days.

Got my official letter after they investigated my complaint.

It was another form letter that failed to address my questions. (A couple of quotes from the letter in red text)

I note in particular you are dissatisfied with the £20 annual fee that will be applied to your account

If they had bothered to actually look at my complaint rather than just send out a form letter, they would have noticed I'm not going to be charged that fee (at least for this year)

There was then a paragraph reminding me that I was denied a Platinum card when I originally applied. No comment that this was several years ago. And neither does this address my complaint that they won't let anybody switch from classic to platinum.

They also put a BS paragraph about how they feel the £20 fine reflects the benefits of the card!

At Morgan Stanley we take customer satisfaction very seriously....As a valued customer I hope that this situation has not caused any detriment to our long standing relationship with you

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So, I'll spend enough to get another £5 cash back to top it up to £15 and then switch to using just my Asda card.

    Hi
I just phoned up the freephone number on the statement, and the customer services guy was almost in tears after I had a go at him. Anyway, he has credited the full amount of cashback into my account (£21 - so in theory I would have lost out on £6) and that will come through in a couple of days, after which I can close the account and I won't have to pay an annual fee. Apparently I have to wait six months before I can apply for the platinum card. My credit limit for the classic card is £3600...
There was no way that I was going to end the phonecall without getting what is rightfully mine - all my cashback that I had accrued.
I asked him how many customers were phoning up closing their accounts due to the fee, just out of interest, and he said "a very large amount".
He also said that there was no notice required to close the account, could just be done over the phone, as long as the balance was zero.

Well Done!! I am going to give them another soon tonight as they have failed to have managers call both myself and my wife from last week. They will have to put the phone down on me this time if they refuse to let me speak to someone more senior. ....

Well MS have caved in with me as well. Agreed to pay 100% cashback for the 'bad service' they have offered in the last week. Result

Well, I've already had 2 phone calls where they refused to cave in, and both phone calls would be on my notes. Has anyone who has just had their cashback returned already phoned them up before and was told no first, then tried again?

Don't want to be some kind of stalker or timewaster who keeps phoning up and getting the same answer. I explained in my phone calls that I've heard on internet chat forums that people have phoned up and had their fee waived, but I was only told that I'm not having my fee waived as it's down to individual circumstances which they can't comment on. Wonder if I'll get the same when I ask for my £7 cashback again.

Or better still, I can do as suggested on the phone and make a written complaint if I wanted to take this further.

Just phone them up and simply state that you are not putting the phone down until they pay you 100% of the cashback earned BEFORE the introduced the annual fee. Ask to be put through to a manager and again refuse to accept a callback. I simply do not believe they would have the bottle to put the phone on you. Also as its a freephone number you have nothing to loose. I would try and get this sorted by phone as with letters they can get 'lost' and you probably wouldn't get answers back for ages
