"saw it on Facebook". WELL it must be true then.
People share anything without checking facts.
Hello, welcome to MSE. It's actually pretty customary on most forums to read a thread before replying to it, in doing this you may save yourself from looking a bit stupid, especially when the answer to your post is contained within the text you haven't bothered to read....It does have the style of one of those Facebook hoaxes from the image but a search reveals the post it was copied from, with slightly less !!!!, here
Now, had you bothered to read that rather than deciding to impart your wisdom on us all here you would have realised that the link directs to the forum where the lady involved in this posts.
So next time you decide to jump in and accuse people of sharing without checking facts you may want to, well, check your facts eh?0 -
I stopped giving my dogs rawhide treats years ago when I found out they are manufactured in China and the fact that I had read about them causing choking in a few dogs.
I now stick to simple biscuit treats like mini bonio and suchlike, far safer.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Well said. I think this poster is the same one that joined under another, similar name especially to ridicule a thread I started the other day. just wants to get his/her name in print I think!!0 -
Hello everyone
I have just been told about this thread. It was my dog that had these chews I put it on my Facebook page to warn my friends that this had happened and hoped that this would not happen to anyone else I also put it on a site I use to get information on for my dog. I can't believe it has got all over the place I am glad as hopefully people will be more aware of these. It is not a scan I have the document here how ill my dog could have been through this !!!!!0 -
Eek, what's a good replacement for rawhide? I think dog #1 would be okay because she has an iron belly but dog #2 just has to look at something dodgy and it goes straight through him.
They get carrots and cheap versions of Markies but they always like having something to chew. Things like pigs ears/trotters are out because dog #2 is stupid and guards them for a day before abandoning it and never bothering with them again.'til the end of the line0 -
Stag bars are supposed to be brilliant for chewing, the thing that puts me off them though is more the cost because bob can be blooming fussy over chews.
B&M do make some harder chews which I assume are meaty called jumbo rolls, they are very hard and take him quite a while to get through on comparison to the likes of jumbones though they don't have the same longevity as raw hide.0 -
Chewynut - I am in same place as you.
Before reading this and the links I had no idea that rawhide was bad. My boy has had the small shoes, the twisty sticks and the flat chews. The twisty ones did make him sick (froth not food) a few times, so moved away from them. But now..........
Just tried the soft mint flavour chews (similar size to pencil) but think they might upset his tummy.
Might have to try a stag bar or a nylon bone?:silenced:0 -
Thank you, Pulliptears. I think we'll give the stag bars a go. He might not eat them but she'll eat animal, vegetable or mineral so they won't go to waste. She's still working at one of those filled marrowbones we gave him about six years ago :rotfl:
Lemonade - We usually end up giving the precious snowflake bits of biscuits inside a treat ball whilst the girly has proper chews. It keeps them occupied for the same length of time.'til the end of the line0 -
One of our dogs has chipped his canine tooth recently, so I'm now careful about giving them chews that are too hard. He may well have chipped it on a stag bar.
We are currently getting pizzles, oesophagus and cows ears from zooplus which they love. They last a reasonable amount of time and seem to be "safe".
We don't feed rawhide anymore as it gives them the squits and I'd read about what was in it.0 -
Thanks for the heads up! I often look for bargains for our dog, he loves his rawhide bones, keep him quiet for hours!0
