I realise that you are just trolling so I won't write a long post to defend what I have said.
    2 things.
Being forced into poverty as I was teaches you a lot of things, but the most important lesson I learnt is to hang on to your compassion. Without it you are just angry and bitter.
Secondly, your signature says you only offer advice based on your own expertise. You freely admit to having no knowledge of surviving on a low income yet you have persisted in giving it even when it was not asked for or needed.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.
  • The issue is whether the OP should have compromised their job by going AWOL through lack of funds.

They should have moved heaven and highwater to maintain their income and it doesn't appear that they did (judging from what they put here).

Anyway, everyone is entitled to an opinion Dizzy, so all ideas and posts are welcome (as long as they are not breaking the rules).

Fortunately, all is well that ends well so try and not get your knickers in a knot over other peoples opinions that you don't like.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

How does any of that fit in with the fact that their employer messed up their salary big time. This had nothing to do with maintaining their income.

Being AWOL is likely considered gross conduct which could result in instant dismissal - hence getting sacked would result in them losing their income.

They are fortunate they have an understanding employer that made things right, the opinion of myself was initially that they did not put enough effort in to get to work and had the employer taken the same view they could very easily have sacked the OP, thus removing their income.

An understanding employer who cocked up their side of the contract!!
You work for an agreed amount of money. If your employer fails to pay then they had better be very understanding. It was them in the wrong all along and they have now recognised that and put it right according to the OP. They have also recognised that they put the OP in a very difficult position, hence his quote
They have accepted full liability and will be paying all the back pay, plus the days off that I was forced to have.

While the employer admitted wrong, don't expect them to favour OP when selecting employees for promotions or who not to make redundant. OP was off work. This will have created a bitter resentment from OP's employer whether you like it or not. Not the end of the world of course. Just make a better impression again by working extra hard.
