From reading this there were three separate but related incidents.
1- OP's partner seems to have pulled out in front of angry driver
2 - Angry driver overtakes OP's car and stops to confront OP's partner
3 - OP's partner panics and reverses into car behind.
I do not for a second condone angry driver .
I don't know why people on this thread are interpreting the OP words
"We turned a corner, not letting a car out as we were in a rush."
to mean that the OP pulled out from a side road infront of another car on the main road. To me it suggests no such thing (because you do not "let out" cars on the main road, you are "let in") and if that was the case I'm sure the OP would have mentioned such a serious error in detail.
To me it suggests they were on the main road, came round a blind corner and there was a car waiting at a junction to join the main road. However this would not seem likely as it would be seen as an insignificant event in most peoples books. So what is far more likely is that the car being stuck with the unfortunate circumstance of having to pull out onto a main road and on a blind corner, was either in the middle of the road hesitating before finally crossing over to the other lane & the OP came past him without letting him out from his stationary position. Or the car was actually moving towards his destination when the OP came driving round the corner & the OP carried on regardless causing the car to brake.0 -
Wig's interpretation is one I quite like.
Every morning I have to pull out of a junction that joins the inside edge of a blind corner. People are supposed to be able to stop in the distance they know to be clear and the junction is clearly signposted but still people come around it at 40.
It's basically required that you pull out to the centre line and then have another look for someone coming, because they aren't going to be stopping to let you finish your manoeuvre.0 -
Last year I was passing some business premises, there was a van driver who had pulled out half way across the road to turn right (blocking traffic coming the other way), I didn't let him because there were no cars behind me (road was clear after me).
Next thing I know he pulls up next to me at some lights, swerves toward me car whilst shouting "F*CKING W*NKER!!!!!"
I emailed the in car video to his employer“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I agree with that policy, there's no point wasting your fuel to slow down to let someone in in if the road is empty behind you. it's also arguably quicker to do it this way for everyone concerned.0 -
Plus the one time you do decide to do it for whatever reason will be the one time the person waiting to pull out isn't paying attention leaving you sat there looking like a muppet.
I have a simple policy for letting people out, I won't stop except in special circumstances*, but I will back off and open up a nice gap and wave/flash them out as appropriate. Those who are paying attention will see what I'm doing and pull out, those who are not paying attention will not.
This way I avoid having someone in front of me who doesn't pay attention to their driving and don't waste too much fuel in letting people out.
*For example, someone waiting to turn right to exit a busy main road who is creating a huge queue behind them. Lots of people will benefit from me putting in a bit of extra effort to make sure they actually get to turn!0 -
Although my personal favourite was passing a guy (on my motorbike) who was doing 40 in a 60 in his nice brand new LR Discovery. No problems, nice and safe, no flashing of lights, horn, gestures etc. Gets into a 30 limit so I slow to 30, next minute he is 2 ft behind me flashing his lights and sounding his horn. !!!!!! there is a speed limit in this village for a reason - it's called kids and pedestrians.
Easy answer - well I just slowed to 20 and then 15
(oh and I can almost see the conversation later - b****y bikers going everywhere so fast LMAO)0
