Don't modify the car anymore as Elephant will only accept a certain number of modifications. If you contact them to advise of more modifications they can decline to accept and cancel the policy.

If you don't declare any further modifications (When you should have), they could potentially void the policy if they're discovered during a claim

It is quite nuts these days.

I was shocked when I got a second car and found it was cheaper to insure it fully comp than TPFT.

This is due to the amount of damage you can do no matter what the value of your own car is.

A little tap in the rear of a car with four passengers and hey presto there is a claim for £25k

And with only a 10mth policy he won't be able to claim a year's NCD when he renews.

The cheapest way for a young/inexperienced driver to insure a vehicle is to use one of these black GPS boxes which monitor and reward safe driving skills.

Trouble with doing that is, if he were to have a bump your Mum and Dad would end up getting stung 'cos they'd have lost any no-claims.

You only run that risk when you have your newly qualified young driver named on your policy having built up years of NCD. Helps to protect it but you still get stung for a hike after the kid has a prang.

My first insurance was 10 month with diamond i believe and they gave me NCD, its a bonus accelerator policy or something
  • Bonus accelerator...that most companies(i believe) refuse to accept unless gained through that company. Forcing you to stay. Con.

Admiral have always given me the best rates, but I've had to contact them directly. Seem to be excellent for 17-30 year olds but after 30 they become far less competitive.

Also cheap and easy to make changes etc - would certainly recommend them.

Not true. I have been getting 10 month policies for the past 4 years (been driving for 7 though) I always get a new normal proof of NCB from Diamond, and nowhere on it does it state that I got it from a 10 month policy so other insurers will accept this.

All it means is that i have to renew 2 months earlier every year.

I always get Diamond to price match my cheapest quote so I have never had to move away from them.

But you are pricematching 10 months cover from Diamond against the 12 months of other companies.
