...just one final question if i may: are they trustworthy? what i mean is, is there some of kind of (hidden) catch here given that they are 'free'? what do they get out of this? pardon my paranoia- it is friday the 13th :)

They are very trustworthy many people here on MSE have been using this group of companies for several years, as indeed have myself. I don't get anything out of it other than happy to offer help and advise.

18185 is also on one of Martin's articles as a service to use as it is overall usually the cheapest.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    A quick update...

The changeover to bb with Virgin went smoothly enough.

    The Wireless router/modem arrived after 2 prompts - it's a DG834G - nice piece of kit.

I am now 8 days into the connection - and the speeds continue to be well below the 8mb.

I have reinstalled windows, and have a clean machine. I am happy with the physical wiring between the master socket and the netgear wireless modem/router.

I have raised a question over the speed with VM's e-mail service. Interestingly, it doesn't send me a copy of the question I have sent to them. Not good for an audit trail.

    What speed are you getting?

You are only going to see anywhere near 8mbit on adsl on an up to 8mbit service if you live within a few metres of the exchange.

That's a normal result. Once, it went up to around 4mbs.

I am around 500m from the Exchange as the crow flies.

if disable is ticked, you aren't secure, and anyone can connect to your network. (if you don't use wireless, disable wireless completely on the same screen, and the wireless light on the router will go out.)

  • Hello All,

I'll be shifting to a new place by mid of May and considering VM 3 for 30 option to get Mobile, Phone and Broadband.

I have a few questions about their services and will really appreciate if someone answer them:

    1) Is the Virgin Phone based upon landline like an ordinary BT line? If yes, then I can use the VM landline to get Sky TV subsription?

    2) Is VM giving wireless router free with this package or do I have to buy it from them or I can get some good deal from some where else?

    3) What is their overall service quality especially for Woking, Surrey area?

    Thank you in advance.
