Preparing for winter IV

Had an email this morning with some winter car tips, most we're fully aware of but to prevent car doors freezing shut it suggested running some furniture polish on a cloth over the rubber seals. Going to try that later!0

Ohhhhh no - hope they're OK. I would agree with others in that the ones I've got have been drying really well overnight just on the airer (about the only thing that is mind you!).

Just thinking back to when I got my 1st flat - hardly anyone had their own WM then (am I showing my age now) and everyone went every week and wash/dried everything so no stuff lying around wet all the time ..... wondering if that did in fact make a difference!

My dehumifier arrived and it works brilliantly (1/4 cup of water collected already, its only a mini one but is whisper quiet) but the courier opened my garage (which we thought was locked, door was closed right over and clicked shut so its not as though it was ajar) and put it inside. The garage is part of the house not separate. The courier company don't see what the problem is. Can anyone else see where I'm coming from?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. The courier didn't come to collect the dehumidifier  I'm out at the hospital today with my DD from about 10.30 (no choice, roadworks on route & I have to go to the bank as well) so I'm now wondering when the hell they'll pick it up :mad:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

Nicki, give them a call when you get back home and write down the name of the person you speak to, together with the day an time and just keep chasing them and contine to write down the details as above from each call. Hope you get it sorted soon.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

My OH and I keep discussing this at home and I am hoping that someone on this thread could explain to me why it is supposed to be cheaper to keep the central heating on all day on a lower temperature compared to morning and evening only but on a higher temperature.
I prefer to have it on twice a day and OH all day.
Most of our garden is now prepared for the winter, most leaves are gone and I have cut down the rotten lavender. On Sunday I half emptied the water butt and will do the other half soon, I don't want the water butt to overflow in the winter. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. If I am expecting a delivery I always leave my garage door closed, but not locked in the hope that the if the courier came whilst I am out, he would leave it in the garage (and most of them do). To my advantage I live in a cul de sac of only 5 houses so I don't regard it a security threat. I prefer him putting it in the garage, because it saves him bothering my neighbours or me having to rearrange another delivery date.0 -

I've just messaged them on Twitter, apparently some people have had success with thatAlso someone has just been on there within the last 5 minutes & so much cheaper than phoning :rotfl:

If you leave your heating on at a low temp and turn up a couple of times / day when you need it warmer, it takes a lot less time for the house to get up to where you want it than if the house had been really cold (eg it might only take 1/2 an hour of the heating being on for it to warm up, compared to 3 hours if it hadn't been on at all). Hope that makes sense?
It does actually work - I left my thermostat on at 15 deg last winter (heating turned up to 20 deg in the evenings) and spent a lot less than I had done in previous years. If I am expecting a delivery I always leave my garage door closed, but not locked in the hope that the if the courier came whilst I am out, he would leave it in the garage (and most of them do).
Do this here too and it seems to work - I also leave a note on the front door asking them to leave in the garage (with a thanks written on)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I think its more the fact they've squeezed round the front of the car and opened a closed garage door. To me this is a complete invasion of privacy. Most of my neighbours were in and this courier normally leaves parcel with them. So why be nosey and open my garage door when there's a car right up against it?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
