Preparing for winter IV

hi- does anybody have an experience of making a curtain out of a duvet?? I picked up a really cheap one at the end of winter last year ... my idea being to put it up like a curtain at my bedroom window (which is freezing- not single glazed but still flipping cold!)
Any advice greatly appreciated
I do have a sewing machine and sewing skills but the less faff involved the better

pixie_girlie - if you look for window quilts on the forums there are some good ideas and links but I can't remember where I saw them, sorry!
Just ordered some ikea T-lights from land of bay, postage cheaper than petrol to get to an Ikea, plus I won't be tempted to buy other stuff:rotfl:
Forgot to say thanks for bed suggestions. Have looked online and like the look of the chairbeds from the futon company -but cost:eek:Will probably leave it till I can actually go out to look properly as I like to touch and feel things before we buy.Not dim

Thanks Doveling, have found them now, just needed the right phrase = 'canadian window quilts' did the trick

Got a bargain from bay of stores 2 very newish large fleece throws. Great to throw over settee and arm chair, £2.50 plus postage.
Almost have most of canned food in stash now, but will add to it a bit more a girl can't have enough.
Buying a small chest freezer for our glory hole, filling up with extras and bits for Xmas. That will be in the first week of Nov, just need to get the glory hole sorted. Its a smallish room off our porch so everything gets put in there. Next big buy after that is pet food, enough in for a six weeks or so. Have 8 cats to feed [some are strays] and 2 dogs, so I will do a big order on line order for that.2020 Stash makes/destash 61/1500 -
I am eating humble pie at the moment. I have cleaned and sorted the whole of today and I felt like it, so I reckon that I do do an autumn spring clean. One whole room almost done and one bookcase. Things put into the shopping trolley ready for the cs and other things for dd. Still in a t shirt today and feeling comfortable but I haven`t stopped. I can now walk into my study/craft room and have a table that I could now actually use for sewing if the mood takes me. Feels good, ahh I know what it is, I have the stores ready and am now getting the nest ready for hibernation0

I love thick soups in colder weather they have a cheer me up factor that lots of other foods don't. I sometimes serve them with a mound of mashed potato in the middle of the bowl, real comfort food!!!Yummy!
I made a big pot of Colcannon yesterday, which my friend describes as 'comfort food'. It was certainly delicious. I made enough to freeze for several meals, to be served with vegetarian sausages and thick onion gravy.
Mmm, you are both making me hungry. I love soups in cold weather too. I also like jacket potatoes as they remind me of Bonfire night and using the oven heats the house up a bit too.:)
I'm tempted to put the heating on today as it feels quite damp in the house with all the rain.
I still haven't bought the living room curtains so need to get my a*** into gear and buy some!:rotfl:HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Well I turned the heating on for a short blast yesterday, only to find the pump had gone, M+ars came out and said it would be Monday before a new one could be fitted... Full of cold and decided now would be a good time to make a pressure cooker full of Lamb stew and dumplings... DD1 knicked the laptop for college work so started a crochet blanket for the old knees... Hot chocci for the kids tonight, which signals autumn in our house, was nice to see the girls snuggle on the sofa instead of demanding heating.... hmmm wonder if I should tell porkie pies and see how long I can stretch out the "pump" not been fixed yet story....Thriftkitten

I looked at the price of wraps and decided I could do the same with a fleece. I bought a cream one for £4 in a chain store, cut it half-way through to the centre of the length iyswim, pinned iron-on tape then satin ribbon onto the cut edges, and ironed it on with a hot iron over a damp cloth. The fleece doesn't fray but the edging gives it a stronger and attractive finish. It matches my cream sofa so doubles up as a throw when I'm not using it. I'll make a couple for my DGD who has just moved into her first flat and is learning OS ways very quickly!0

That's a great idea Sparrer, and a good saving.
The kitchen roof is now in the process of being redone. We have had a fair bit of rain which has caused a delay. It will be finished early next week. The garden is pretty muddy, due to lots of scaffolding, building materials and heavy rain.
Half term started yesterday, so a trip to HB and I've stocked up on toilet paper and bought a few other bits.
I've also started to buy a few bits in for Christmas and hidden them away from the teenagers. If they knew I had fizzy pop in the house they'd be badgering me for it!
I bought some bottled water, just in case it's needed. A.trip to the farm shop is on the cards, I need to restock the freezer.
Mum gave me a voucher for M&S so I hoping to get some boot slippers later today.
Preps seem to be coming on nicely.
Enjoy your day.
