Hollie I just buy coats with hoods, far easier!

Yes i do and line the inside of the hood with a PULL lining so making them waterproof and that fabric lasts and then make a drawstring fastener that you can then tie closed

I have a Fulton umbrella that I bought on Amazon and it seems to be good so far, it even coped with the windy weather we had a few days ago.

The link to John Lewis someone on here put up had some good bargains. Thanks.:A

I really need to get on and order the rest of the winter blankets!:D I only had a cotton sheet last night and I was a bit chilly during the night. I have put some wicker baskets next to the bed to put the new blankets into.

I think I need to rearrange the airing cupboard and take the fleecy blankets out for an airing outside as I might need them for the sofa in the evening soon.

I think next shop I'm going to buy beans, tins of soup and things like that that can put into a store cupboard. I'm also stocking up on green tea as I drink so many cups a day during the cold months.

Just booked the chimney sweep, we like to start having fires on those chilly autumnal evenings so I don't want to wait until everyone wants theirs doing.

I've got just over half a ton of coal stored in the garage and loads of wood (thanks to someone on freecycle renovating a house - lots of lovely beams and joists!), got some decent sized logs that having been in there 2 years now seasoning off.

We've had the back of the house repointed and a new flat roof on the extension as we had dreadful leaks last year in all that manky weather. Just need to organise for the conservatory roof to be looked at now as we have a few leaks there too.

DD's both have decent coats and boots so will be fine, do need to help DD1 get a car box together though as it will be her first winter with her own car and she'll be travelling back and forth to Uni each day. I shall make her a list and she can start looking out for bits.

I do need to clean all the window fittings out to make them seal better (thanks for that reminder) a couple of handles need tightening too.

I've got some new curtains for doorways so need to take them up a bit and add some thermal linings, got a feeling we're going to need those sooner rather than later so shall dig those out.

Was lovely to feel the nip in the air this morning, I just love this time of year going into autumn.

Anybody remember me sealing the hole in my wall, which went from kitchen to outside where the DW outlet pipe went through, with papier mache about 4 years ago? It stopped the horrible draft.

I washed a couple of throws today. We use these on the sofas, the children like to wrap up in them. I've still got a few to wash, I've got quite a collection.
I need new slippers. I buy sheepskin type boots from m&s to use as slippers.
We are off shopping tomorrow, the older ones need stuff for college/starting a new job!

  • List is coming along!

    - [STRIKE]Get a new duvet. [/STRIKE] It's arrived! Gentleman Caller is going to check it for bedbugs (as I'm extremely paranoid and don't trust any large shop when it comes to that kind of thing) and then will air it out on a clothes horse during the week.

    - Get my coats dry-cleaned. - Still to do.

    - [STRIKE]Sort out better storage. [/STRIKE] Didn't buy the drawers from Ikea in the end as I'd need a day off work for delivery and I don't have much leave left. So I bought some boxes from Rymans.

    - Get a new washing basket as my current one is falling apart. - Still to do.

    - Have a clear out - Still to do.

    - [STRIKE]Possibly buy some wellies.[/STRIKE] Bought some lovely purple ones from Amazon, they're now here, waiting for bad weather!

    - Clear out my food shelves. Still to do. But my drawer in the freezer is now almost empty so I need to start batch cooking :D Need bolognese, meatballs in tomato sauce, chili, lasagne, any anything else I can find. Also need to buy some chicken soup too.

    - Sort out gloves, scarves etc - Still to do.

Also realised that I need to stock up on medicines! And sort out a small first aid/medicine box to store everything in as right now everything is all over the place in my room.

our house is sorted for winter as it is very insulated, I just need to make sure that we have the home comforts for if/when we get stuck at home because of snow and/or floods as the lanes around get affected. 2010 we were snowed in for 6 weeks, we could get out in the village but it was so darn slippy, wasn`t worth the risk. I have the metals spikes but I have now also got boots that will be safe on snow and ice, just to get some exercise and fresh air. I also got a rebounder for last birthday so I can bob up and down and get breathless in a spare bedroom

Last lot of flour ordered for now, white keeps 12 months and wholemeal 6 months. I keep in lock and locks in a cool dark place and it keeps very well. I buy organic and get shiptons from the mill. P and p is free over £30 and organic is about £1.30 a kg. Makes lovely bread

Lots of pure wool jumpers made already as are hm socks and plenty of spinning done so yarn ready to knit, also new fibres bought and in sealed packages, so ready for being occupied. I really want a wool housecoat, not fleece, which makes me spark. Looks as though I will have to find a pattern, not easy to find an old fashioned housecoat with buttons up the front, another thing to make. Dh has a wool dressing gown, so nice, cosy and hard wearing
