Preparing for winter IV

I don't know if you already have a tray, nicki but home bargains had some big boot trays for a couple of quid. I had one last winter, really useful and a good size. DS has now pinched it for playing with his lego so all the tiny bits don't vanish. But happily, I managed to get another 2 (front and back doors!) recently.
It is this one but heaps cheaper!
Thanks for that. I'll have a look when I'm next in there. As mad as this sounds I'm hoping that won't be for a while as I go in for one thing and end up spending a small fortune and leaving with bags of stuff:rotfl:

Thanks for the link, Bossymoo, we need something like that, too.
It's slightly cooler here this week than recently, but still summery, doesn't feel backend-ish yet, but I want to crack on during the school holidays whilst I don't have to clock watch. Going to help my sister repaint a bedroom at mum's today - we had the ceiling repaired recently, so now ready for painting and putting back to normal - and finish sorting out all the woollies and bedding.
Also going brambling this afternoon, weather permitting, ready for jam making. I usually freeze as I pick, then have a massive making session of jam and/or liqueurs, and leave some frozen for quick pud ideas through the winter - can't beat a litre taste of summer in midwinter!

Runner for kitchen floor has arrived so no more cold feet on lino! Welly socks have arrived for DD and I and DD's new waterproof coat has arrived.
Feeling a little more organised than usual, which is pretty good going considering DD's birthday party is in 8 days and our wedding is in 2 months!

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for the past few days but thought I'd better say hi! Reading through this has given me loads of fab ideas, such as making door curtains (I have a couple of old pairs of curtains that I can customise/stitch together to fit) and putting a runner on the kitchen floor. I need a new boiler and am eligible for a free one but they seem to have put a hold on the scheme for a while  (I'm going to make a list of all the things to do to prepare for this winter and then get to it after my holiday.0

Hello
I've decluttered under the stairs and found enough candles to light up the whole street.
The torch is now easily accessible as are the camping lights. I bought an extra box of matches last week.
Feeling quite pleased with our prepping so far.

Not quite sure if you can class it as Winter Prep... But I gave the front uPVC windows a good scrub to remove loose dirt after replacing the seals the other week and then I went over them with uPVC solvent to get out the ingrained dirt. At least the front of the bungalow looks cleaner.
Had a radiator pipe burst the other day on the car, so replaced all 6 of them and double flushed the radiator system before replacing the coolant (Antifreeze). Quite concerning how many fly's and seeds came out though!
Other car preps are to do an engine oil change in 1500 miles and also to change the oil in the front and rear axles and also the transfer case oil needs replacing. Winter tyres will be going on weather dependant (Normally mid Nov)0 -
It was strange weather here yesterday, it wasn't cold but the wind outside was howling and it sounded like the storms we had here earlier this year.
I was getting a bit worried about my fence as it still needs to be secured as the man didn't turn up. Are all fence repair people useless or is just in my area?:rotfl:
I washed my summer curtains and packed them away and put up the winter ones already.:o:D
I am going to buy the rest of the winter blankets this week and some storage for them as I am decluttering some more furniture and want the house to finally be more organised.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

During the summer I open my windows and clean out the locking mechanism so that it will shut properly and so eliminate the draughts. The first winter I moved in here was draughty because of salt build up in the mechanism. Opening them up in the summer and brushing them out makes a world of difference. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

First step done, just ordered some lovely purple wellies from Amazon! £25, which I was worried was a bit high, but with any luck they'll last me for years and they'll be good for wandering around Kew Gardens once autumn hits.
Got some advice from Mum on the duvet front, really must sort out an Argos shop as I need Saturday delivery but my only available Saturday is this one...and the 30th! Must also remember to purchase through £co, will probably sit down and sort all that out this evening.0 -
Don't want to double post, but never mind.
Just bought new duvet off Argos, got a 13.5 tog with duck feathers as recommended by Dearest Mama. Also treated myself to new bedsheets and got a new flat sheet as well to go over the mattress. Argos were advertising a 25% off code for homewares (HOME25 for those who need to make similar purchases) so used that.
Going to hold off on the storage purchasing and washing basket until I've cleared out more stuff, otherwise I won't have anywhere to store the storage! Can't spend all my money in August, some of this will have to wait until September0
