Preparing for winter IV

Treat myself to de humidifier at the weekend. I was astounded how much water it collected in the kitchen and the living room. Though my washing was on the dryer in the kitchen. The house did feel a bit warmer.
I bought a dehumidifier last winter as we have a lot of damp and I was astounded at how much water it collected. I have to say though, it makes the rooms really chilly. I've had a good look and at it only has an on/off switch. Does anyone else find that the rooms are colder with it running? Ours is made by Supawarm - ironic really!Decluttering junk and debt in 2016

Day one of my week off.
I didn't do all that much at the weekend, apart from make some bolognese sauce (some for the freezer) and relax.
Today I:
* made soup (just some potato and leek, most destined for the freezer)
* bought some birthday/Christmas presents
* got a few new pairs of winter socks
* stocked up on batteries
* sorted out my medecines cupboard and bought/put in repeat prescription for things I'm low on.
* replenished my first-aid kit0 -
i did a test on myself last week as normally when i get the cold i buy every gimmick going which is not cheap,i dont think this would be any good for kids though.....my OH had the cold so i knew its only a matter of time before i get it, so woke up with sore dry throat and dry nose so i took 2 paracetamol out of mr t 16p a packetor something silly like that and took the stated dose on box, did the same the next day and the next my cold didnt get any further than when i started taking the meds so in future its paracetamol for me and no fancy cold remedies.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Aside from bog standard paracetamol for cold flu types things I used C0nt@ct 400 if I am travelling or have a stinker snotty cold and have to give presentations or do business meeting stuff (which is pretty much every time I get a cold!) suppresses everything for 12 hours great if you are flying and stops or limits drippy noses.
Also menthol crystals dissolved in hot water and inhaled, my life the rubbish that pours out of your head! Quite violent but very effective and upper cheap. DO NOT use more than 2 crystals , it's strong stuffStart info Dec11 :eek:

Thanks cazzap06- have ordered half a dozen bags for the yard. It gets lethal in the winter cos the water just tends to sit.

If I can, I am going to get the roses cut back today and the lawns cut. Not sure if I will be able to fit it all in with timescales etc. The lawn is still quite wet in places and damp in others but it has grown quite a bit and has not been cut for at least three weeks or thereabouts.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Wow, what a brilliant thread! Thank you everyone for all the helpful posts, all very useful as I too am busy preparing for winter.
I've just ordered a snow shovel from eBay for £4.
Reading about winter car packs, don't forget that cat litter is cheap and brilliant for when you need a bit of traction.
Pet owners, please remember that gritting paths with salt is bad for our pets. They lick their paws to clean themselves and digest the salt.
I've just put the electric blanket on the bed with a timer switch so we don't forget to turn it on.
I've started leaving the oven door open once I have finished cooking to utilise the last of the heat.
I can't believe the clocks change soon!! Soon be Christmas0
