Not to sound silly but I wanted to ask experts :D

Are these curtains you guys have found warmer than those I would make myself. They are made with lining of polyester and cotton. Would cheap fleece be warmer or would these be better

    Thank you in advance

Thick velvet curtains would be warmer or any other thick heavy ones but other than that I think it's difficult to beat fleece.

I have it interlined in my velvet type ones and an additional set of cream fleeces hung between nets and curtains in my living room, and the difference in temperature with the fleeces is amazing.
  • Day 2 of holiday.

I met up with a friend today and didn't get half the things done I wanted to but I have:

    * Mushroom soup made - didn't intend to make more soup but the mushrooms were reduced and the unfrozen soup from yesterday is eaten.
    * I followed some of the advice and lined a curtain with fleece to hang at the front door of my mum's flat. It's really hard to get something in the shops for that size of curtains.
    * I'm now about 20% through my Christmas shopping list - although work will be busy from when I get back and the rest will be the usual mad rush.
    * On my travels I picked out fleecy PJs and slippers I'll be going back to get tomorrow.
    * My essential skincare (prevention of major breakouts) - I'm all stocked up for the forseeable.

I bought a dehumidifier last winter as we have a lot of damp and I was astounded at how much water it collected. I have to say though, it makes the rooms really chilly. I've had a good look and at it only has an on/off switch. Does anyone else find that the rooms are colder with it running? Ours is made by Supawarm - ironic really!

Nope. My room is definitely warmer. The dehumidifier blows out warm air from the top. It's a Meaco dessicant type.

After pretty heavy rain overnight and to about 9am it is now warm and sunny! Might get my pre-winter garden jobs done after all!

ETA done a bit more tidying outdoors, plus have put the cosy toes back on the buggy for dd. we don't use it often, and I'm not sure her feet won't poke out of the bottom now, but I did wonder why I kept lining it with a blanket when she has a nap in it, when it has a custom fitted cosy toes *sighs*

Oh and tesc@ had some very soft cable knit leggings, have purchased a pair, they are very cosy. Little lady tot had some last year and I was so jealous, now I have my own big lady ones :D

    Away with the fairies
  • I woke up this morning and cba doing anything more than making chicken casserole in the slow cooker. I'm typing from my bed right now - a rare luxury.

It was blooming cold in here today. I live on my own in a 1950s flat that isn't well insulated, although it would heat up quickly with the heating on it gave me a chance to think over the 'What would happen ifs...'. Family don't live that close, my neighbours are of the elderly, 'go-on-lockdown after 4 o'clock' variety and there are no shops handy, although the train station is. I think I'm fairly sorted, or will be once the internet shop arrives and I finish my programme of restocking/rotating the freezer and store cupboard. What I really need is:

    * A few things that would make a meal in the event of a power cut.
    * My rooms 'dressed' for winter - thicker curtains washed and hanging, more candles.
    * A thermal mug or flask (I make a note to self to buy one for commuting fairly regularly, always forgetting but it would come in handy in cold/flu season when maybe there's a real reason I cba). Any recommendations?
    * To think of strategy should I have more than one person staying overnight when the weather is bad - extra tootbrushes, fleecy blanket etc.

Hopefully will be back on course with prepping tomorrow.

A de-humidifier should definately make a room feel warmer as it takes any dampness out of the air.

Ours definately makes it feel warmer :)
