Have you thought about cellular blankets? Easy to wash and dry, and if you're lucky can sometimes be found in charity shops. They are quite expensive to buy new but as long as they're washed I don't have a problem with 2nd hand. (We find them useful as throws or extra layers during really cold weather)

:) Yes, I actually have one of those on my wish list at Amazon. I thought they look quite warm.

I recently bought half a dozen cellular blankets but made from cotton, they are half price at the moment and are absolutely wonderful in all weathers. I keep one at the end of each bed and they are brilliant for putting over a thin duvet if it feels cool. I had already bought two, two years ago, from these people and we love them so I topped up. They are bigger than you think and a lovely thickness

Well it turns out I won't be doing another winter here (1 bed flat in an Edwardian converted house) with my wood floors, single glazed, rotting framed windows.

Moving in with OH in eventually, double glazing again!! lol Will finally get to use the slow cooker again, and have a proper freezer!! lol

    El Nino

Also on the news recently they have said the plants and trees are moving towards 'autumn' earlier than normal
I have seen this with my own eyes, with leaves dropping and changing colour.

Maybe the country side knows more then we do??
I think I have read somewhere about, pointers from nature regarding the weather, but can't remember where!!

    New list for 2014/2015

The winter prep list of Pigpen.

    1. Coats for everyone who needs them. B, D, M, J, A, F, GS1
    2. Shoes/Boots for everyone who needs them C, Da, M, J, A, F, E, De, GS1, GS2, GS3
    3. Get a little ahead with gas payments as my Dec bill comes Christmas week and cripples me every year.. I WILL be prepared this year!
    4. Kitchen 'stock up' list. Make sure we have lots of non-perishables in case it is too cold/snowy/etc to get to the supermarket.
    5. Medicine cabinet refilling. Cold/flu caps, calpol, calpol melts, ibuprofen, calprofen, anbesol, canesten, metanium, cough medicines, throat lozenges, lip balms.
    6. blinds up in kitchen .. finally!! the 3rd one was finished on 1st July 2014.. only took 3 years!!
    7. curtains.. french door, I have thin ones up but need something more substantial for freezing days!... shower curtain rings to put them up, so I can take them down more easily!!
    8. Draught snakes.. French doors, front door, back door.
    9. Service for electric fire in middle room.. it has been cutting out after half an hour or so.
    10. Car service & MOT.. December
    11. Car bits.. antifreeze spray, screen wash, blankets for tiddlies, spade, cardboard for traction.. it is also used to protect the carpet in the boot from muddy pushchair wheels!
    12. in the house activities for the children. I might actually have them doing stuff like stuffing draught snakes etc. I wonder if I can have them knitting squares so they can knit a blanket for themselves!!
    13. Replace drip thing on back door to stop rain sneaking in.

    14. New cat flap!!!

My big winter prep has been sorted, new loft insulation and loft hatch is being done early September.

Checking out CS and eBay for a nice blanket for the sofa. I checked out the link from earlier but didn't like the colours lol

Also need to buy a curtain for front door, we have a good 4 foot between the door and the first exit , so I plan on putting up one of those expending curtain rails up, to create an air gap. In an ideal world I would build a porch . But need funds for that .. Do I need planning permission... ..? I will have to look into it .

It seems weird to be thinking of winter as it is supposed to be the hottest day of the year today.:D

I still need to buy the new blankets for my bedroom. I need to move some more stuff around and declutter some more carp so I have space for the bedding. Since we had the loft insulated we can't store anything up there so it seems like we have less space to put the winter and spare quilts.

I have moved my kitchen around a bit so I might be able to have a door curtain this winter as there is now space.

I also need to get a new blind for the kitchen as I should be painting it this summer. I hate painting so much.:p

Afternoon everyone, it's a sunny/windy day so I'm taking advantage and getting as much washing done as possible. I am doing a carboot sale on saturday so I'm glad to be de-cluttering and also having some extra cash to finish jobs that need doing and getting things that are on my winter list. I got OH to put up a net curtain wire along the back door so I can hang some curtains up. I will be looking round the charity shops for those and if I can't find anything I will use some old bedsheets that I am not a fan of. We are going to buy a small chest freezer in the next few months so I can have that for stocking up/batch freezing. Anything to save a few pennies! xx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!
