  • Afternoon! I had to give in last night with the heating. Stuck it on for 2 hours and the house was toasty in time for bed. I was happy too because it dried some of the washing whilst on. Going to the laundrette again this weekend with 2 big loads of washing to get dry. My washing machine has a timer so I will stick it on to set off at 6am so when im up it will be done and i can throw another in there and then wait til that's done and pop in to get it dry. I was really happy last weekend as i got 2 loads dry for £2. Definitely not investing in a tumble drier with it being that cheap to do. It's a mission to carry it down there but that's what my OH if for. ;) Shame we don't have a car! xxx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

Finally had to empty the dehumidifier today in DD's room. I started it Friday at 10am, and its been running constantly since except for about 3-4 hours yesterday while I was out. :D Think I might buy another one for my bedroom and then save up for a bigger one for downstairs ;)

I've also put a second blanket on both beds, the front door curtain has gone up, and we've put DD's summer clothes away. I have loads of other things I want to do, but my bank account has other ideas :(

nicki, can you tell me which dehumidifier you have? Been looking at them myself as we have to dry all our washing indoors and its taking ages now, I refuse to put the heating on just to dry laundry so I thought a dehumidifier might help; bit baffled with the amount available online. Sorry if you've already said but I don't have time to thread-trawl as I'm *supposed* to be ironing! :D

I'd be interested in the running costs associated with running a dehumidifier.

We hired an industrial strength dehu. last year and although had to run it non-stop for 7 days. It added an extra £20 on that months electric usage.

I appreciate this was the monster of dehu. and long running times would have contributed to that but I am scared that something that is supposed to help with energy costs will add to them and considerably.

Does anyone have any running cost info?
  • fuddle, the Dimplex dehumidifier I was looking was rated 250w; I pay 12.46p per kWh for electricity so it should cost 3.11p per hour to run max; if the air reaches the required humidity level it should switch itself off, so there is potential for it to cost less, but I'm working on worst case scenario here. If it were running non-stop for 7 full days, it would cost £5.24.

Put myself off a bit now, thinking of an extra £20+ on the leccy DD

Went to shops yesterday to get more curtain hoops. Curtain in conservatory is up.

Haven't done much else as yet, but I have made a list of everything I need to get/do, so I have a plan at least. Tried to organise plumber to come do boiler service but he hasn't replied as yet. I'm at shops tomorrow for birthday and wedding stuff, so if I get time will get some things done on the list.

Have got 12 portions of chicken casserole on the go at the moment in slow cooker...but may eat this before the winter really starts, so can't really tick that off. ....... May hide it in bottom drawer so have it for winter emergencies thinking about it.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
