Preparing for winter IV

Been to Matalan this morning & picked up a flannelette sheet and some pillowcases. Feel lovely & Soft, thanks to whoever mentioned them stocking them! Much chillier today, a porridge for breakfast and soup for lunch kind of day! Just put some washing on the line but not sure how long it will last out there!
Going to sort out the fleece blankets this afternoon & find somewhere for them to live in the lounge, it's just been decorated so everything having a new place to live!0 -
I only had a flu jab once - I was ill and in pain for days after the injection, and that winter I had the worst flu I've ever had, proper can't lift your head off the pillow stuff. Never again - I'll take my chances. I very rarely get colds and flu - haven't had anything for years.
Feeling virtuous - steamcleaned the front room carpet which was on my list of things to do this week. Need to tackle the dining room but it's the overflow of utter rubbish from DH's study (bags and bags of paperwork and dead computer bits all over the table and floor) that's going to need me to gird my loins.
I have a heart condition and had the flu jab for years. Quite often I got side effects from taking it and I also had a full blown flu (not just man flu!!) 3 times whilst I was taking the jab.
Like other posters, I read up on it and decided to stop taking it. Since then I havn't had the flu once - think I will continue to decline the offer...0 -
As I am currently poorly with food poisoning (grrrrrrrrrrr) I thought I would mention once again that it is a good idea to keep some of those microwaveable rice pouches in the cupboard for if you get D&V and are too weak to cook.
I was so poorly last winter with Norovirus D&V and so weak afterwards that I had to phone my neighbour and ask her to cook me a bowl of rice as it was the only thing I felt my stomach could handle but I couldn't make it down the stairs to cook any  . Luckily she has a key to my house and didn't mind but I feel happier knowing I have some in the cupboard to just heat up if needed.
I add a splash of soy sauce to my brown rice too. Not only for flavour but it contains vitamins and minerals and sodium. Perfect recovery food for me! Along with flat full sugar coke which I dislike but the energy kick is useful.
(oh and microwaveable/simple meals/snacks for the kids if you are unable to cook/prepare food)0 -
I always get offered the flu jab but found out after lots of research im better off not having it (also havent been ill since!) I always found all my sneezing and wheezing dissapeared after i left work (im sure it was the airconditioning as i used to sit under the main unit).
Can anyone advise me about central heating? im not putting mine on yet but am wondering if it is better to have it on long and low or for short periods at higher temperature?? im here all day but its mainly the morning bathroom routine and the getting in to bed thats the worse times. if it gets too cold we just wrap up and go out.0 -
Bought the outside tap cover from Aldi today, super easy to attach & saves the worry about anything happening to it! Still need to remember to turn the water off to it tho!
Beef casserole cooking for dinner, hopefully there will be enough left for my lunch in work tomorrow too. Smells lovely & the evening have been noticeably chillier so I'm looking forward to some warming food!0 -
Oh eck, I've spotted my first robin in the garden today!!
I hope it's not a sign that snow/cold weather is on the way.:(
I posted the other day about hot water bottles and covers at asda direct, I didn't have time to say, before the little blue light on doom went (internet connection). That they had some really cute reindeer and snowmen ones. £6.00 each basic rubber ones with no cover £1.50 but out of stock at the moment
Double up for winter and Christmas, saving money in one go :T
Sorry but I don't know how to do the link
thanks x0 -
supermouse... i'd go long and low.. it reduces condensation and being warm all the takes less fuel than going freezing to hot twiceLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Weather is all kind of nuts at the moment we've had fog and proper mizzle feels really oddly Autumnal odd because it so muggy and hot I've been sat with the patio door's wide open in a T-shirt while sewing a draft snake.
I think winter going to hit us hard this year in the South West.0
