Preparing for winter IV

There's all this talk about flu jabs starting now, in preparation for winter. I have to pay for my own and have done up until now. However, and it isn't to do with the money, I would find that, I don't think I am going to have it this year. Each year, a week or more after having the jab, I seem to get pains in my joints which last for ages. I know they reckon it isn't a live virus but I can only go with my own symptoms. I will be 62 soon and already experiencing aging sypmtoms, am not 100% well with sinus/breathing problems at the moment and don't want to exacerbate these. But I do feel that I am taking a bit of a chance. Decisions, decisions.....0

:jHello just popping in from shtf lot, re-flu jabs noticed last post. My practice nurse said that they were looking at giving all children under a certain age ( forgot what age) the flu jab not just certain groups. My two kids have had flu and swine flu jabs to asthma and other issues. I always book them in oct/nov time as I know other people are at more risk of getting it and need early protection.0

I only had a flu jab once - I was ill and in pain for days after the injection, and that winter I had the worst flu I've ever had, proper can't lift your head off the pillow stuff. Never again - I'll take my chances. I very rarely get colds and flu - haven't had anything for years.
Feeling virtuous - steamcleaned the front room carpet which was on my list of things to do this week. Need to tackle the dining room but it's the overflow of utter rubbish from DH's study (bags and bags of paperwork and dead computer bits all over the table and floor) that's going to need me to gird my loins."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
We're both entitled to the flu shot because of our age and I wouldn't consider not having it for a second. I'm all for prevention and the flu can be very nasty sometimes so I'll put up with any side effects it may give me and have peace of mind that I'm protected. The other thing I'm going to ask for this year is a Pheumonia vaccine which lasts for 10 years as the most likely complication should you contract the flu is pneumonia and it's that which causes most problems in older folks. It must help a struggling NHS service to do what you can to not have to use it in winter when it's usually working on overload.0

I've never had a flu jab. I get bacterial tonsilitis which needs to be treated with antibiotics usually but it's not something the flu jab can prevent....but (touch wood, turn around three times) i don't get the flu. I have colds but nothing bad enough to lay me up in bed. Sometimes i get it where i'm hot and cold and shivering but I can handle it only being 23. Don't really want to be putting drugs into me if I might not even get poorly! lol. I'm a bit of a doctor dodger!, I could get mine for free, it's a shame i can't give it away to someone who has to pay! xx
Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

Mrs Lurcherwalker,
We have flu jabs due to asthma and suppressed immune system due to chemo, rather than age. However I have not heard of the pheumonia vaccine - is it available countrywide?0 -
I'm normally well into my winter prep by now but I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant so don't have the energy atm. Also we are moving (all going well) to a new house on 1st November. Its only 7 years old and got a C EPC rating so hopefully shouldn't be too bad.
None of the radiators are underneath windows so thats hopefully a good thing. It is detached though so no heat 'sharing'.
My DS (4) has a new Winter jacket (only £20 in the Trespass sale - bargain) and I'm holding off a little before I buy his Winter boots and wellies (in case of last minute spurts)
He has a onsie atm which is really cosy and I've put another by for Santa. I'm not buying myself Winter clothes until I pop :rotfl:0 -
Hi CLARE I only know about it as DH has a heart condition and was given it a couple of years ago. I'm going to ask when we go early in October for the flu shot, I'll post details of who is entitled if they will tell me, hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
