Just to add the following from Barclaycard's website:
At any UK Barclays Branch please allow 3 working days before your payment due date in cash only, or 4 working days before your payment due date by cheque or a mix of cash and cheques.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

In the same way that insurance companies offer a "24 hour claims line" but if you phone up out of office hours, nothing happens except your details are noted and processed the next day.
Not exactly the service you expect, is it? It's not false advertising, but it's also not quite true either.
We all know the OP has fallen foul of the "by close of business" clause on the payment.
But I don't think it's unreasonable to consider that if a branch is still open then clearly it's not close of business yet. If the branch is open they should be providing a full same-day service until they close.
Yes, I know, it's gone on for years. Or at least since banks started staying artificially "open" for longer. Something should be done about it. We've finally got payment transfers going through in a sensible amount of time. This sort of thing should be next on the list.
I try to only do business during office hours, because I know that extended opening or "24 hour service" is usually anything but service.
You wouldn't expect to go into a supermarket at 8pm and be told you can load up a trolley but you can't actually pay for it and take it home until tomorrow. Or call up the AA because you've broken down at 4pm and be told they'll process your request at 9am tomorrow.
If a company is ostensibly open for business, then you should be able to get the service advertised no matter what the time.0 -

This is a lot like when people miss check in at an airport and then say "but the plane hasn't left yet.."0 -
What do you expect them to do, start discussing the incident with the other insurer at 2am? Saves you having to call during office hours.
No, but I do expect them to be able to enter everything on their computer system as if I were phoning during office hours. Not write all my notes down and then enter them on the computer the next morning, making all sorts of mistakes in the process, as happened to me with one insurer when I called their "24 hour claim line".Could close the branch earlier.0 -
The stamp should be the date of receipt.0

If you go into Barclays on Saturday they stamp everything with the following Monday's date.0

I worked in Barclays and if you pay things after 330 or it was then they are actually processed in the bank the next day. It is just a closing point.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:
