  • That's good to hear. I am still waiting for them to open it up, they are now waiting on the proof of ID and address that the branch has!

Soo annoying as it is holding up me going bankrupt, I hope they don't too long to open the account.

Me and the OH went into the branch to open up the account. The advisor filled in our forms (which I could have done myself!), took copies and verified our ID's. It took a grand total of 5 days including the weekend to find out if our account was going to opened.

Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

  • good news re the Co Op. hope you're ok topcat, i've not been around for a bit but i remember you posting a while ago.
  • Well it must be true!
I just received an email from the Co-op saying "Thank you for choosing your Co-operative Bank current account.

Our existing current account customers have voted us number one on the high street for customer satisfaction* - so you can be confident that we'll look after you and your money."

So it seem all is not lost, if you open an account before going bankrupt.

    Cash hag,

the purpose of the thread is what happens after you go bankrupt if you open the account after the 17th september. So as it stands your account is open, but the big question is our you bankrupt, if you are and you are not discharged then it is good news but if your not and your due to go bankrupt then there is a chance the co op once notified by you, the Or or your credit files then they will close the account, that is the purpose of the thread.

  • Hi All,

An update. This morning we were made bankrupt. We went to see the co-op afterwards after previously opening the account.

The teller was most officious and her line was "how dare you open an account with us knowing you we're going bankrupt. We don't open accounts for bankrupts"

I queried this and told her that the coop website did not say this. She then showed some doubt so I asked her if we could speak to the bank manager or her superior.

She then phoned their branch support line and the girl on the end confirmed that even if we had opened an account the hour before going bankrupt, as far as coop was concerned we were then an existing customer and they would support us.

After this the teller apologised and thanked us for questioning her as she had learnt something new.

I hope this helps everyone else - and please if they tell you no ask them to call there superiors and question it as even the tellers do not understand the coops new stance.

    Regards

    TC

This is the response I feared!! If topcat2006 hasn't been a poster here and hadn't quoted what the press release from their website had actually said then they would of been turned away!!

Need more posters telling their story too eh?
