MSE News: Eon simplifies its energy tariffs

He said that they keep telling the 'people at the top' that their tariffs need to be better...but they don't get listened to!!!:(
There's an old adage, often attributed to Einstein, that goes:Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results
He sounds like a typical Eon employee :cool:0 -

It bothers me that comparisons now show a better deal elsewhere as I've had excellent customer service from EON (especially on MSE) but a switch would be in my better financial interests. I hate this endless (gas, electric) energy/(home, car, contents) insurance switching game0

After many contented years with PowerGen/E.On, I left them last year because they weren't competitive. Rarely needed their customer service, but when I did, it was very good. For my sins, I went to EDF, whose general customer "support" is well documented in this forum. I'm staying with them as they were smart enough to offer the switch to their now discontinued Blue +Price tariff before my current tariff ended.
For the price, advanced offer and no penalty if I leave it early, I decided I could put up with their customer service. Looked at going back to E.On, but they had nothing even vaguely competitive I could consider.
New EDF tariff is supposed to kick in tomorrow, fully expecting a lengthy call to their CS regarding it, but it should be worth it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Will somebody please say "I have now chosen a tariff, which is better than the other four BECAUSE........" and "I was not able to choose previously because there were twelve tariffs."
The moron who was asking any passing stranger which tariff he should go for is still doing that.
Even if E.On had only one tariff, this moron will choose another company, because "her cousin is with BG, and they have no complaints."0 -
According to energyhelpline there are tariffs listed as Fixed 1 Year and Fixed 2 Year both with and without Tesco points, the with being dearer.
Hi molerat
With the new Fixed 1 year and Fixed 2 year tariffs, customers can choose to take their rewards as Tesco Clubcard points.
Although the unit prices differ between the 1 year and 2 year versions, they're the same on each tariff regardless of how a customer opts to take their rewards.
Just had a quick look at energyhelpline and they're showing the with/without Tesco points as separate tariffs. Checked a couple of regions and the unit prices shown as the same, whether Tesco points are chosen or not.
If you've spotted something at odds with this, I'd be grateful of you'd let me know and I'll feed this back to the guys who deal with broker sites.
Thanks molerat.

Can anyone say whether or not this tariff will continue to be offered under the changes? If we cannot remain on E10 and are forced to E7 I would definitely change suppliers. I use E10 as I have a house that cannot have gas laid to it as a large pressurised water main runs in front of it. If I had to change from E10 I would need to invest in more expensive storage heating which has back up convection for the three hours in the afternoon.
Hi vivatifosi
Don't worry, your Economy 10 tariff is still available.
At the moment, our new tariffs aren't available to customers with non-standard meters like Economy 10, Economy 18, Heatwise etc.
We are, though, looking at our best we can help customers with this type of metering. We'll let all affected customers know as soon as we've some definite proposals.
For the time being, though, you'll continue on your current tariff.
Hope this helps vivatifosi. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Sorry Malc, only a short while ago we got both, discounts and the Tesco Clubcard vouchers were a nice little extra.
Don't see why anyone would take vouchers over hard cash.

Eons new tariffs only give one choice for a Gas only Customers , the Standard tariff . The new Age related tariff is Dual and Electricity only . I live in a Park home , electric is site supplied and on Age related 2013 tariff . When that expires I will have to go on Standard tariff £41 per Year money compared to current rates .So much for choice of up to 4 Gas and 4 electric tariffs proposed by Ofgem ! I'll get a choice of one .0
