You could try an energy comparison site; they're usually pretty quick off the mark with new tariffs.

UK Power comparison site is <here>. Select "View tariff info" to see unit prices and standing charges (if appropriate) after you get your list.

    Edit
Cheapest E.on tariff for me is 15th on the list.

As a matter of interest, i used this energy comparison site, which told me that if i switched to edf, i would save £86 a year. There were only 3 other companies which could reduce my cost by £20 pa.

However, the interesting fact i noted, was the site estimated that with edf, i would spend £180 a year more than my estimations with my current supplier ( and i rely on mine,) therefore making it more costly to switch. Just one to watch?

Of course, no one can accurately predict what the cost of my annual bill is going to be, since i haven't yet lived in the property for a year.

I think i'll reserve judgement, on this one. :)

If that is what they call simplified I am glad they didn't make them more complicated !! They still come under the heading of expensive and now charge extra for Tesco points. I think "own goal" springs to mind.

Molerat, I'm sorry. I'm a wee bit confused :o What makes you think we now charge extra for Tesco points?

We've offered Tesco Clubcard points for payments for quite some time now on most of our old products.

This has changed a little and our customer's can now choose to convert their loyalty, dual fuel and online rewards into Tesco Clubcard points.

So lets see, Eon makes its tariffs substantially worse by having a full price standard plan or a discounted plan that locks you in for twelve months and this is supposed to be good news for consumers? At least the cancellation fee is only £10, until it goes and changes the penalty part way through the term while you're still locked in.

It's just an energy supplier looking to trap people a few months before it raises its prices, so they can't dodge the increase.

Simplification: Eon and others getting more competitive about how they harm consumers, not competing more to get consumers.

jamesd the £10.00 cancellation fee forms part of the T's and C's. We won't change this.

I can't find the unit prices for the new tariffs anywhere on the Eon website.
It tells me which tariff they think is cheapest for me (I'm an existing Eon customer), but I'd like to work it out for myself.

Connie, if you have an online account with us, you can get the unit rates on there. It's under 'find our best deal for you'. Just follow the on screen prompts and look for one that says 'review plan'.

    Hope this helps :)

  • I've just switched from EON to EDF - I got the Blue + Price Promise April 2014, which as well as being fixed for 2 winters is going to save me money. Interestingly I had a call from EON, who were simply asking why I was leaving and if there was anything they could do. When I explained that I was moving to fix, and was saving money at the same time, the chap from EON admitted they needed to have more competitive tariffs to win or retain business.

I never had a problem with them - direct debits adjusted so I never had a huge bill, and a refund after an annual review. If their tariffs could have competed I wouldn't have moved! For a time they were competitive, as I used to check regularly...

According to energyhelpline there are tariffs listed as Fixed 1 Year and Fixed 2 Year both with and without Tesco points, the with being dearer.

He said that they keep telling the 'people at the top' that their tariffs need to be better...but they don't get listened to!!!:(
  • In the Energy Companies speak to English dictionary, "simplifying tariffs" means price increases. When they want to go the over way and increase then number of tarrifs then giving customers more options is usually the phrase.

    In other cartel news.
Brittish Gas came out with a new excuse, rather than the old tried and tested due to increases in the price of oil, they have said prices will have to increase because they are not making enough proft from customers.
  • The reason the companies are simplifying tariffs is down to what the "consumer" wants of the industry fewer tariffs that are easier to understand, hence the re-introduction of standing charges. As already mentioned is a way for energy co's to increase bill payers cost without a unit rate increase. But the government is very smug about this feeling it has made the Big 6 do something for the customers and all the Gov has done is given power co's licence to reduce customer choice and pay more!!
  • I think Eon are going to have to do a lot more to get back their long-term customers like me who had been with them for 12 years approx. I've gone to Scottish Power.

I am on E.On's E10 tariff which works well for me. It isn't easy to switch as an E10 customer. Can anyone say whether or not this tariff will continue to be offered under the changes? If we cannot remain on E10 and are forced to E7 I would definitely change suppliers. I use E10 as I have a house that cannot have gas laid to it as a large pressurised water main runs in front of it. If I had to change from E10 I would need to invest in more expensive storage heating which has back up convection for the three hours in the afternoon.
