    I've closed a fair few accounts over the years, and I can take most abuse. Many people seem to think they have the right to talk to people like absolute crap! TBH it's not worth the hassle.

    Either way, even if someone isn't abusive, a bank has the right to close their account if they want to.

    Its even the T&Cs now a days ive noticed:

    Closure by us
    7.1.1 We can close your account immediately if:
    (a) we reasonably suspect that you have given us false information;
    (b) we reasonably suspect that your account is being used for an illegal purpose;
    (c) you behave in a threatening or violent manner towards our staff; or
    (d) you were not entitled to open your account.

  • I've had one man say that if he saw me in the street he would "chin" me. I can't remember what that was about - overdraft charges probably.

    I don't normally get the shouty ones but one person recently got very irate because he'd been taken in by one of those loan brokerage scams and was extremely upset that the bank wouldn't refund him. Actually threatened to come to my place of work and "beat me to a pulp".

    It's a shame the frontline staff get this kind of abuse.
  • But you see if you'd just provided him better customer service it'd never have happened, because you obviously didn't know your job...

    I was threatened with physical violence several times when dealing with medical insurance claims. As a result of the worst occasion, the policy holder had his policies with the company cancelled and the company complained to the police. (He had also abused/threatened two other members of staff.) I believe he took the matter to the then Insurance Ombudsman, (it was pre 2000) . His complaint was rejected. The police cautioned him.
