I have friends in Ilford. They don't think of it as a war zone.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Hmm. You've got me intrigued too now. Sounds like a West African/Caribbean area, so maybe either Peckham or Tottenham?
Could be whole swathes of south London especially though really.
Oh yes the borough of Lewisham could be a possibility.
I live SE London now but live in Bromley which is a lovely area and areas around it, just stay in the borough.0 -
Why not rent your place out?, with rentals in London sky high, the rent will pay for your new place & the old one, while you make a decision as to what you want to do & your still on the housing ladder?.
Ps) Apparently Streatham is going thru a regeneration, see how that will go!!No one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
I asked my mortgage lender for consent to let.
They said no unfortunately.0 -

Apparently I have a half sister who I have never met.
Maybe we could go on Jeremy Kyle...."daddy, why did you leave us?"
Except that I am not ugly enough.
LindyLou - Over the next few months I am going to start doing a kind of mini tour of England staying in bed and breakfasts for a couple of days in each area.
Its quite exciting really.
I am up late again, but this time not because I am worrying about growing old in a horrible town, but because I am looking forward to moving somewhere nicer. And I will forget all this property ladder nonsence.
I look forward to my new place to live and may even adopt a homeless staffie dog. But I won't be calling it Tyson, Razor or Killa.
I would welcome more suggestions of where to live, especially up North.
Regarding work, moving would mean that I could look into becoming a foster parent...I have wanted to do it for ages but a one bedroom flat was never practical.
:rotfl: Jeremy Kyle, you would 'fail' the entry exam on spelling, grammar, punctuation and wit!! Your tour sounds exciting, I really hope you find somewhere that feels like home - I live alone myself so I know how important it is to feel comfortable in your surroundings.
It would be wonderful if you could foster a child and/ or adopt an unwanted dog. I have an indoor rescue cat - city centre apartment - so good for mental wellbeing. Please update this thread from time to time, we love a 'happy ending'.

I will start googling for creams...what keywords would I need to put in?
Just Google for lanolin cream, then maybe e-mail the companies to clarify the grade (I have not done this!). The Weleda baby calendula face cream and weather protection cream are highly effective, their Skin Food also contains lanolin and is a cult product but more scented than the baby series. The Weleda products are super rich so a little goes a LONG way and the base is always a natural plant oil as you are accustomed to (sunflower or almond IIRC). Note that Weleda products contain a little alcohol as carrier for the plant extracts, I let that evaporate off for a few seconds before applying.
I have also tried Triple Lanolin aloe vera hand and body lotion which is MSE but I dislike mineral oil and parabens. You can also get lanolin creams on Etsy if you are willing to import.
Alternatively you might buy some Lansinoh which is nothing but medical grade lanolin wax approved by the British Allergy Foundation and add it a little to a cream you already have or your oil blend. It's pure white, very thick but not sticky, smells of absolutely nothing. I am told by skincare formulators that lesser grades have a yellow tinge, tend to be sticky and can be 'sheepy'. A tube would last forever because you only use at 5% or so.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Or perhaps consider a whole lifestyle change?
We're remote with some of the lowest crime statistics in Britain and a most wonderful sense of community - we escaped a large Cotswold town 8 years ago which was hardly Beirut but going downhill fast and bought our ruin of a house here for very little money........still renovating now.
We relocated in our early thirties, just did the sums, took pay cuts and went, and although employment opportunities aren't great there's always a demand for nursing and healthcare professionals.
You needn't worry about Staffies called 'Killer' either - although the neighbouring farm's sheepdog, Bryn, doesn't like people wearing red and said farm's goat, Olive, is pure evil.
I do have to warn you though of a recent crime wave - someone pinched the hanging basket from the village shop in the summer......folk are still talking about it now.
Good luck whatever you decide!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
Norma....actually I have often been tempted to nick pretty hanging baskets.
I fear your area would become a crime hotspot if I moved there.0 -
