Ive got an xbox 360 with a HD DVD drive.
Ive got a Sony Xl201 Media Centre(to stream ripped HD content onto my plasma)
Im now getting a PS3.
Now, a blue ray disk can content 25gb on each layer. Thats 50gb disk.
Currently, five Hollywood studios exclusively support Blu-ray Disc: Columbia Pictures, MGM, Disney, Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox (Columbia Pictures and MGM are owned by Sony Pictures). Four Hollywood studios support both Blu-ray and HD DVD: Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema (the former two are owned by Viacom, and the latter two by Time Warner). Two Hollywood studios exclusively support HD DVD: Universal Studios and the Weinstein Company.
A HD disk will have max content of 15gb each side.
Now BLU Ray can be ripped onto your hard drive. However the time it takes to download it will take alot longer than HD dvd.
So, motion picture companies will push Blue Ray.
HD dvd will still kick about for games etc but you can forget about HD superseding Blue Ray. The likes of Comet, Currys Dixons, are now begining to push Blue Ray (well thats the top down approach towards Blue Ray).
Blue ray has a better chance of protecting the motion picture companies.
Sony will win.
Buy a PS3 if your skint
Or if you have cash buy a standalone Blue Ray player.0 -
Or don't buy anything until the format war has been settled. On top of paying for the player you have to pay for the movies which are a big expensive - most definately money spending, not money saving!!I'm better off without you.0

but a hd movie and blue ray movie only use about 12gb or sumin dont they at most so all that extra space on the blue ray aint used for the movie just extras and the like aint it
also went into game station today and saw that f1 game on the dogs doodles sony tv... and it was pants and all the big up and only runs at 720p and all the graphics were dead blocky like when you look at normal tv on a large lcd tv etc.. def not the best game to try and sell teh console!!!if you like say thanks :j0 -
i'd have been happier if the elite had a smaller HDD, but incorporated a HD-DVD player instead... Microsoft have missed a golden opportunity to capture those people who are still indecisive about buying a PS3
That would probably just upset existing Xbox owners. I know I would be pretty upset having spent £280 on a inferior console and out of date version of the console after just 1 year of buying it. For the time being there is no real need for the HD-DVD drive unless games were being released on the format.0 -
That's right & they wouldn't want to split their own market anyway, to two formats. Xbox live is superb, I got mine up & running yesterday

Just need a 50" telly now
