To be honest I have 12gb free on my HDD anyway and black is just boring now, if you got a 360 why not liven it up with a set from www.decalgirl.com

    Just a thought

Could someone explain to me in laymans terms what the difference is between the core console, the premium and the elite and what the best package to get would be for someone on a budget??

Ok so basically, with the CORE Package you'll recieve the console with a white disc tray, a WIRED controller and a regular de facto COMPOSITE cable to connect to your tv, i.e scart, that will give you a good enough picture. If you want to save your progress in games then you'll either have to buy a memory card or the hard drive addon.

The PREMIUM Package comes with the console with a chrome disc tray, a WIRELESS controller, a 20 Gigabyte (GB) hard drive and a COMPONENT cable which gives a much better picture. You'll also be able to use that cable on a HD TV if you have one for an even better picture.

The ELITE Package is essentially the same as the PREMIUM Package, however these are the differences: instead of a 20 GB hard disk you get a 120 GB hard disk. You also get an additional connection for video output, which is called HDMI, which is a digital video signal. And of course the console and controller are black not white.

Neither the CORE, PREMIUM or ELITE come with a wi-fi adapter, so if you want to connect wirelessly to a network to play games online or share media you'll need to buy one. However, they all have a ethernet port so you can connect to a network via a wire.

So, lets break this down a bit with a few questions.

    - Will you be downloading movies and videos from the Xbox Marketplace when they launch this service? If no, you really don't need a 120 GB hard drive. A memory card and/or 20 GB will be plenty.

    - Are you really that bothered between using a wired controller over a wireless one? The wireless takes batteries, so you have an added cost there if you dont have rechargables.

    - Do you have a tv that has a hdmi port? If no then there's no gain for you with the ELITE.

    - Must you have a chrome disc tray?

If you answered 'no' to most of those questions then I'd recommend buying a Core and then buying either a harddrive or a memory card for the game saves.
    I'm better off without you.

i 100% agree with bluetilidie! but then again i am a playstation fan, not so big on the xbox's!
i also agree with 5limjim as microsoft could have made so much more money if they would have put that HD DVD player in there as these consoles are priced well under the PS3!

Well if you think about it; the 360 doesn't come with wifi or a hd dvd player, so if you buy the premium console (£270), a wifi adapter (£50) and the HD-DVD drive (£120) you've spent £440! So really Microsoft have done us a favour by not including these bits, so you can pick and choose. I like the fact that I dont have to pay for the bits I won't use, i.e. HD-DVD.

You can now get a Wii, DS and Core Xbox 360 for £419.97! (Assuming that you can get the Wii. Also, there maybe some discount codes/ cashback opportnities knocking about which I can't be bothered to look into.)

    http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/PROD/2-/2524/2-/Promo.html

...however i ordered one when it said 149.99.
..also checked my bank balance and the order status says the money has been taken and is awaiting despatch.

what are my chances of this order being accepted now??

Word is Blu-ray will go the same way as Betamax, sony are refusing to let !!!!!! be released on blu-ray discs, something which factored in the downfall of betamax at the time. HD DVD is the safest bet in my book.

The other thing is, I'm sure a lot of people will be unwilling to fork out on HD films having just replaced all their Videos with DVDs (as I have.) Until I get an HD telly (some way off yet) I have no need for HD DVDs (or blu-ray)

I got a Premium 360 pack before christmas when the nice people at Tescos were handing them out for nothing (on R&R :T ) and I think its great, I wouldnt mind a PS3 but think the price is a joke to be honest, I'm not that much of a gamer to splash that much cash on something that would just sit next to the telly.

Like Viru.doshi said, Microsoft have done us a favor by letting you buy the package you need rather than charging you a fortune for the package they expect you to have.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Well the tray bit the disc sits on is regular plastic but the bit on the front that has 'xbox 360' written on it is chrome / white.
