It's only 3/4 years ago since Asda promised 99.9p everywhere. 3p is nothing in comparison to 36p rise in 3 years or so!
  • Tesco at Corstorphine Edinburgh hike the price just before they start the 5p off a litre caper,a bunch of highland dancers:rotfl:

I give it 3-4 weeks before prices rise by 3p/litre. Can't wait for the news stories then.

Morrisons are pretty hot-to-trot at the moment; with their option to buy £10 gift cards in-store and to make a saving at the pumps as well. This is well timed by them with people starting their Christmas shopping.

My tip is to buy the gift card for yourself or, as I am doing, use them towards Christmas gifts for other retailers eg: Boots

You generally get 1p per litre off at pumps for every £10 spend.
  • Two weeks ago, I filled up my almost empty tank with diesel from Morrisons in Wolverhampton, and I immediately noticed my average mpg went down from 45mpg to 38mpg for my Mondeo Mk4 Estate - the first time it has ever been so low.

I normally use Shell or Esso, and have occasionally used Sainsbury's and Asda, but I shall never use Morrisons again.

They get the fuel from the same place as Shell and Esso do...

I fill up my MK4 Mondeo at wherever and it gets the same MPG.
  • A thought for you. I am self-employed and drive a Suzuki Carry Van (1298cc), smaller than most cars. My insurance is a lot higher (with at least 9 years+ no claims discount), and my road tax is £215 per year? Why???

Time will tell. I'll fill up again soon and I will put in Esso or Shell, and then see if my mpg rises from the present 38 to its more normal 45ish. I can't do a real test until most of the Morrisons fuel has gone.

As for Morrisons getting their fuel from the same place as Shell and Esso - maybe they do but recent Esso commercials are pointing out that their fuel has extra additives. My recent experience tells me that what comes out of the pump on the forecourt isn't the same.

They do it everywhere and routinely charge a couple of pence more than local rivals when their 'amazing' 5p per litre offer is running.

It's Tesco and the rest we have to thank for the almost complete absence of filling stations in some rural areas. They arrived with predatory pricing and now they have a huge slice of the market are as expensive as anyone else.
  • petrolprices.com is ok if up to date. Had email monday night with dielsel at 1.439. Tuesday morning at sainsburys diesel 1.419. Great its come down but could be running around for nothing based on email.

As for difference in fuel, my dad swears his Mondeo drives and feels better on shell rather than supermarket fuel. Only one problem has to drive 11 miles to the nearest shell garage. Only have sainsbury, Tesco, Jet, and BP here.
