Some do from my experience, there is usually the choice of double, twin or family rooms when booking. The original poster was I understand given a family room and not a twin room, which didn't match their original booking.

I stayed at one of the kings cross travelodges, booked a double as it was all that was left and I was ok about sharing with my friend but at reception (where it was clear me and my companion were not 'together') the receptionist asked if we would prefer a twin. I told her there werent any available when we booked but she said that all the wheelchair accessible rooms were twins and in future just book one of those if I want a twin. It had an accessible shower in the bathroom with a flip down seat and lots of grab rails but wasnt an actual wet room. It was quite a nice room, lots of space and all the bathroom stuff a bit newer than usual!0

It's kind of difficult to argue as they did offer you a disabled room with twin beds which would've surely been more suitable for your needs?0

Well, that's a new one on me, I have never seen it on a booking form ever, and ive stayed in a lot of Travelodges. A twin room means 2 single beds to me and is widely accepted to be so.
Mind, never again, after a monumentously disgusting stay in Quayside Travelodge it's been Premier Inn every time now.
Can't fault them.
Yes it sometimes pops up on 'Family' as a small additional box, and they are proper twin rooms. They do get booked quite early though, so I suspect OP's room was given to someone who asked for one on arrival.

He means that on the booking form the family room option sometimes contains a separate, additional choice of making it a twin room - ie 2 full sized beds.

No, I don't believe that it means that the room will contain two double beds - it's just that they will supply a second set of bedding for you to make up the sofa bed.
I've just tried it on the Fulham hotel the OP used, which only has Family or Double Rooms.

If you have specified that the booking is for two adults and then select a family room (i.e. room with doouble bed and sofa bed), then a 'twin occupancy' tick box appears on the left hand side of the screen where you click to book. The help for this option explains that;
Twin Occupancy
Please note that the bedding will be provided to enable you to convert the sofa bed in your room into a bed for the second occupant of the room
If you select the check box then (using a booking for another location that I actually have made) it shows up on the booking as;
No. of nights: 1
Room Type: Family Room
Rate Type: <whatever>
Occupancy: Twin
Adults: 20 -

I didn't say double beds, you would be lucky to get that in a 2/3* star hotel! TL do have some proper twin rooms - ie 2 single beds, not sofa beds.
Whenever I've clicked the twin option I've ALWAYS got 2 beds, the family option will give you a double bed and sofa for the child.
I would have thought it's pretty clear - twin room = 2 beds, family room=parents' bed and something (bed/sofa) for the small person. If I'm travelling as 2 full sized adults then I expect 2 full sized beds; unless I know I'm getting the large bed/sofa option I wouldn't be happy.0 -
I wonder why you paid so much when booking so far in advance? I've never paid more than £25 a night for a Travelodge room, even in central London. Perhaps the OP wanted the flexibility of being able to cancel nearer the time and therefore went for the 'flexible' rather than 'saver' rate, which in my experience is usually much higher, especially in London ?0 -
Sorry for the lack of replies, it seems as though its more an issue of the site not being clear. The overall stay was fine and the manager even threw in breakfast everyday for free so its not all that bad. I paid so much because I was there for 5 days and we had the ability to cancel it up to the day of check-in.0

We were staying at a Premier Inn in the summer, booked a double room but found we had a twin. Just behind us were two unrelated gentlemen travelling on business who didn't want the double they'd been allocated ... The timing worked well as we promptly swapped, we were in the last Twin room so they'd have been stuck otherwise.Signature removed for peace of mind0
