We have GCH but no rad in the kitchen. We cannot get a plumber who wants to do the job of putting a single rad in a now very cold kitchen so this is our only option.
An electric heater costing around £10 will do the same job as an economy radiator. You enter the kitchen turn it on...do the cooking, washing up etc...then turn it off as you leave. An economy radiator has timers and accurate thermostats with a digital readout but that's all just fancy stuff which isn't required when you can just use a switch.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

This is easy. Presumably you have a suitable wall space (and electric socket). Stick on a "£10" panel or convector heater and see how it goes. Try again in Spring when installers are less busy if you still want a GCH rad. Then you have a cheap backup heater for boiler breakdown. If you already have a backup heater it won't even cost you £10:D.
