Electric heating

I understand they are not run on Economy 7. But that was a bit of a con anyway, as the day rate was so high, so any electricity you used in the day was very expensive. He's on a tarrif now where the daytime rate is cheaper than it was when it was on E7.
Ah I see. Sorry, in my previous post I thought he had the Dimplex Duo heater, I missed the bit where he'd gone for the 'economy radiator' heater.
Oh well - I see you've read previous threads where these have been discussed. Looking forward to the feedback your son gives after the 'honeymoon' period with them! Keep us updated.
(Agree with post above - e7 isn't a ripoff at all, and , imv, is almost essential if you heat with electricity).0 -

I don't think that is a perfect candidate at all for these 'economy radiators', and this for the simple reason that they are such a low power.
So coming home in winter to a room which hasn't been heated for 20 hours could be a very low temperature. If the most powerful in the range is fitted (1.75kW) then that will struggle to get the room warm before he goes to bed under your scenario! (making reasonable assumptions).
The lowest powered in the range 0.5kW(!) would probably struggle with the average room to keep it at a reasonable temperature at say 0c outside even if on 24/7, let alone heating it from cold!0 -
He doesn't heat the water very often. he boils kettles for washing up and uses the electric shower most of the time, hardly ever the bath.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We have electric central heating, which is an electric boiler which runs 9 radiators at the moment. This is the max the boiler can run hence us getting gas installed for for value for money, central heating in a 4 bed house costs us £65.00 a month in electric thats for everything else too lights etc.
This is our boiler

I can understand the logic in not using the immerser to heat water but does that mean he washes his hands in cold water after visiting the bathroom?0 -
I'd be amazed if installing gas CH did not put the value of the property up to more than cover the extra cost over any all-electric solution-and make it much more saleable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It's a block of flats. His is on the second floor. Thre's no gas in any of the flats.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I haven't actually asked him! But quite often I do, if the water has not come through hot in time.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I should have answered the origional poster.
If you have gas you'd be better taking the plunge and going for gas CH rather than any type of storage heaters. Shop around and get the best price and avoid British Gas they'll cost you a small bomb.
It will be more controllable cheaper to run, you're day time power will be cheaper than on E7 and it will be more attactive to a potential purchaser when you come to sell, many people won't even look at houses with E7.0 -
OP stated that he had had a quote for £3500 for 'CH'-that is presumably gas CH?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
