So sorry to hear about this, it's one of the hardest things in life to lose a pet and I had to go through it myself recentley. Take comfort in the fact you gave him a wam, loving home and he will be waiting for you and always walk by your side
  • So sorry to hear this Rainy Days. As heart breking as it in it, releasing them from their pain is the last act of love we can show them. Take care x x x

You did the very best thing for him all the time you had him by the sounds of it.
You took him in when he needed help, when he had been abandoned.
It was probably fate that made him be abandoned near such a caring person as you seem to have been to him.
You helped calm his fears and change his nightmares into wonderful dreams.
You took him on wonderful holidays and gave him the best years of his life.
Even for the last few hours, you made it special for him with a tasty dinner he loved and his favourite drink.
Then, when it had to be done, you released him from his pain, the ultimate sacrifice we can make for our beloved pets. - To let them go when our hearts are crying that we want to keep them just that bit longer.

I am writing this through tears as I know full well what you are going through as I know lots of others on this forum also do. I don't know the circumstances as I can't recall you posting on this pet board, but from what someone else said, he had been poorly for a while.

Just think on that he is at peace now and when you talk to him, he will still be there to listen. I truly believe that their spirit still stays with us. Talk to him, it will help.

    RIP Biff

I stood beside your bed last night

I stood beside your bed last night, I came to have a peep
    I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep;
I whined to you so softly as you brushed away a tear – “It’s me,
    I haven’t left you: I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times that your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, you’re arms were getting sore:
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care –
I want to reassure that I’m not lying there.
    I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for your key;
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said “It’s me”.
You looked so tired and sank into a chair,
I tried to let you know that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me to be so near to you every day,
To say to you with certainty “I never went away”.
You sat there very quietly, then you smiled – I think you knew
In the stillness of the evening I was very close to you.
The day is now over – I smile and watch you yawning
And say “Goodnight, God Bless, I’ll see you in the morning”.
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I’ll rush across to greet you, and we’ll stand side by side.
I have many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your life out – then come home to be with me.

I can only agree with all the other posts above me and say how sorry I am about your loss .:kisses3: I am dreading the day I have to make this decision and I know its not too far away :(

    RIP Biff :(

Dollardog that is a lovely poem, got tears streaming down my face here :( Here is another one that gets me every time

When God had made the earth and sky,
    The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals,
The fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He'd finished,
Not one was quite the same,
God said, "I'll walk this earth of mine,
And give each one a name."

And so He traveled far and wide,
    And everywhere He went,
    A little creature followed Him,
    Until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth,
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, "Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me."

Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end,
I've turned my own name back to front,
And call you DOG, my friend."
