Bit of a brain picking one here. I've been using up a few odds and ends of washing powders, fabric conditioners and whatnot over the summer and occasionally I've noticed the doorseal seems a little gritty when I wipe it. I thought it was sand, bearing in mind we live in the southwest and have been known to wash a few beach towels.
Today I've dropped the washing temperature to 30 degrees (usually 40) and the problem is even worse and there are definitely no beach towels this week. I was using Sainsbobs Bas!cs biological powder and finished off the conditioner, and then used vinegar instead.
I'm thinking that the Bas!cs doesn't like low temperatures but the bit of the packaging that would tell me ripped off when I opened it. Does anyone have any experience or opinion on this?Better is good enough.0 -

I used tesco value one for years.. it suddenly stopped dissolving in the drawer so I would have to pour boiling water in the drawer, then I started throwing the scoopful into the drum but that left white patches on the clothes... try it.. see how it goes.
I just had a thought about wash powder and Squeaks eczema... ponderousLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Oh Mrs Moneypenny you made me laugh! I've got the LL book and the wretched sequel too, and I've extended the loan four times! I think they can go back at the same time. (I haven't as yet managed to duplicate the editions, but I have borrowed the life laundry one several times before, usually in the Spring.) The reason I can't be doing with either of them is that they take themselves so seriously. I want to scream 'Lighten up' while I'm reading them, we're doing the best we can. If they made me laugh at myself I wouldn't be able to resist them.Better is good enough.0

Me again, sorry. Pigpen when you first mentioned Squeak's eczema I wondered about sensitivity to washing chemicals, but I figured you'd got that covered. I'm told that soapnuts don't cause any skin problems and relieve people's ecxema, but I think you'd probably have to use them on the bedding and clothes. Just a thought.Better is good enough.0

i've always used non-bio for baby stuff and just started throwing the odd bit in with the usual laundry and bio powder.. back to non-bio we go.. see how it fares.
Soapnuts are ok for coloured stuff but white stuff discolours very quickly with them.. and they stink. but thank you

Going to make another cuppa as DS3 will be home soon and then send a few more emails.
Me too but in my case I have two westies who I would love Lame Wolf to look after. Im only 20 minutes away too...... xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Evening all!
Decluttered two tired little ones off to bed, and went to survey the bathroom. Finished a spot of touching up. That bl@@dy ceiling! Still, I think it's ok now. Reasoned that a hot steamy bath isn't the best way to dry said ceiling. So that scuppered my plans for a soak.
Cleaned the tiles, wall and floor, so it's all nice and shiny in there. Just need to put things back in place tomorrow, but I'll go through the baskets first and see if I can declutter first...
Made my bed up, had a shower and all tucked up browsing and watching tv.
Have a chilled out evening xBossymoo
