  • I'm back...

    and poor(er) :o

but I had a fab holiday and most of my christmas shopping is done : ) and I don't regret a penny/cent of it :D

I've re-started my spending diary as I didn't bother with it over my holiday and the one MASSIVE saving has been the lack of tobacco bought :T

I've also switched my car insurance which is going down £19 per month and....drumroll please as I didn't expect it in a million years.... I've had a payrise at work :D that's another £61 per month

Presents bought and wrapped without using my credit cards....(all but my brother in law who is the most awkward !!!!!! to buy for!)

I've got that Christmas feeling :snow_grin

  • Still no tobacco bought... despite cravings today!

Still spending too much money on food at work

I've been reading other people's posts and think I need to be focusing on getting one small debt cleared ASAP to motivate me. I transferred £5 each to my two smallest debts this weekend but perhaps I should be making an 'extra payment a day' or 'extra payment every week' just to one to get shot of it - especially if it's high interest? that £10 towards one debt might be more inspirational than £5 off two....

I have a debt with creation for about £550 for my laptop - I can't remember what the interest is but it isn't good! I'm making slight overpayments to all of my debts but think this is one I should make those tiny payments to which will add up as I'll see the benefit sooner....am I making sense!!

Also, could anyone tell me how to get myself shifted over to the diaries thread as I'm taking up precious space and quite like the idea of a diary which this seems to be turning into!

  • Hi DMP

Didn't want to read and run, I can totally relate to your position regarding the smoking both my husband and I smoke (he's on 20 a day and I'm 10 a day :o); every time I look at our small amount of debt I think that £65 a week we effectively set fire to could be making us debt free a damn sight faster!

I can't offer anything constructive other than stick at it, you've recognized the problem and you CAN fix it. You've inspired me in a weird way to seriously think about giving up the smokes :D

A suggestion; maybe think about joining the Sealed Pot Challenge Thread, just chucking some silver in a pot every few days could really add up at the end of year either for a lump sum payment to one of your cards or as a treat for you and the wee one :)

  • hmmmm ....

Lesson 1 - debtfreeness is not going to arrive if you decide your mate needs a £16 pair of sock for christmas...

Lesson 2 - debtfreeness certainly won't arrive if you and said mate drink all the booze you'd bought for Christmas in one sitting...

Lesson 3 - time to detach...!!

This week has not gone well.. (apart from my hangover...that was spectacular..!)

Zebramolli - I love love love Dylan Moran!!

And asparagus...I know where the £200 went (or aldi equivalent...£20...in paracetamol:eek: Port is fatal!

    I'm off to hide...

  • Just read the whole thread, I'm in a mess with money myself.

One thing I did notice was the apparent equity in your house?

If this is the case would it not be worth looking at taking some extra money on the mortgage to clear your credit card debts etc and then you can have a life back and focus on overpaying your mortgage?
