Just been reading through this. Hope you do have another no spend day tomorrow!

In regard to stopping smoking, my partner used to smoke around 80 a week (£30 a week!!) but tried stopping about a month ago and found it hard so he bought a electronic cigarette and some refills for about £25 and he loves it because it comes in its own case like a cigarette packet and the end lights up like it is smoking AND he gets his nicotine fix.
I'm not saying its the same as quitting but he hasn't had to buy any more refills yet so in my eyes we have saved £95 this month :)

But hopefully your meeting with the stop smoking person will kick start your willpower and you won't need my advice :)

Will carry on checking in :)
  • Unless you stop smoking you'll never make inroads into your debts, personally I think a DMP is a necessity for you.

You need to cut up your credit cards ASAP as they are still tempting you!

Sorry to be so blunt but I don't think you've had your LBM yet.

It will come but probably like me not until you run out of credit!
  • Just read this entire thread DMPhereicome ! Weldone on everything you've done so far, you're so brave facing up to your debts and demons, can't have been easy ! Good luck with stopping smoking, that would save you sooo much, plus you'll have a longer life to enjoy being debt free....

Hiya - I've wondered if I've really had my lightbulb moment too - don't worry about sounding blunt - 6 days into a strict spending diary is sending me to a lightbulb moment if it hasn't hit already! I agree about the smoking too - especially having to write down what I've spent on it :o

The cards will be cut up but not until after the holiday - the money on one of those will have to be used for fuel to and from the airport and the airport parking (when I'm rich I'm saving for an acre plot near Gatwick...what a goldmine for doing absolutely nothing!)

The holiday may seem an extravagance I shouldn't be doing at a time like this but other than getting to and from the airport it's all been paid for - and it's to see my family, some of whom haven't met my little one yet, so skint or not I'm going to make the most of it as I haven't been over for 4 years - when I'm back the hard and fast money saving mission will begin...and if it fails then DMP it is :)

  • Well the nice stop smoking lady gave me a prescription for Champix...:j

My spending diary is looking dire though - I haven't been organised at all this week so have ended up spending money on food at work which has really annoyed me and I've only got myself to blame :o

I've also had to spend on warm clothes, socks, scarf, hat and boots for little one as where we are going on our holidays it's going to be about -3 during the day with the windchill and probably snow Brrrrrrr! but at least he's properly kitted out now, I did trawl the charity shops for him and managed to get a few bargains so it's not as bad as it would have been three months ago where I'd have ordered the lot from marks and spencers or somewhere else stupid!

Going to spend this morning doing my sums and then start making the christmas decorations that everyone is getting this year...

I'm feeling very positive and productive today...:D

You've just reminded me I've got one of these that I've never used ..... bought last summer with the intention of using it to give up and never quite plucked up enough courage :o

On Day 29 now :D Ended up going cold turkey due to emergency hospital admission ...... not the best way to do it but at least I've stopped :j

Think I may dig out the e-cig stuff and I could try to sell it on e*bay!
Well the nice stop smoking lady gave me a prescription for Champix...:j

    Yay! Best of luck ........

Following your journey and enjoying your diary!:D

Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • Well I've been away for a while, I have not been very good with my spending diary this week as it's been chaos at work - I've just tried to 'reconstruct' what I've spent this week from receipts and what I've spent on lunches etc and it's been a bad week:o

On the plus side this weekend should be a no spend weekend apart from diesel which will take me to Gatwick next friday, and I'm now into the second week of my Champix prescription and although I haven't reached my quit date, I'm definitely smoking less than I used to...:T

I've been adding up what I have left in the bank and although holiday spends will be tight, I should have enough not to worry about it (and yes...there is a bit of money on the cards if necessary...but only if needed!!)
