These are a MUST, even if you don't get this particular one, make sure you have one installed.
I was woken up a couple of weeks back at 5:30am by a piercing alarm, I had no idea what it was at the time, went downstairs, still unsure what it was, only realised when I saw and heard it in the kitchen, quickly opened all doors and windows, went upstairs to get my son out of bed and called Emergency Gas #.
They were here within an hour, but it was a false alarm, the batteries had 'gone' and just needed replacing!
Now I know what to expect should I really have a faulty boiler. This post was created in an area that may contain nuts!0 -

Hello,
if you search in ebay for "plug monoxide" the exact same alarm/tester comes up and is a lot cheaper, typically £10 cheaper than the shop in this thread after packaging and posting,
cheers

looks like £15 (including postage) is the going price on ebay.
Edit - I have another search and it looks like you can get them down to £120 -
Just to back up the previous poster...
For about a year I have been using a digital-display Fireangel CO (Carbon Monoxide) detector.
We had an elderly back boiler / gas effect fire front and no matter where I put the detector, it never went above 0ppm - actually I was seriously worried that it was malfunctioning.
Until...
...last month we were woken up by a piercing alarm - the boiler's burner had failed and it was burning too cold (gold flame instead of blue) and was pumping out CO.
I could detect nothing in the air apart from a very slight haze and petrol-like smell, but the detector was reporting 148ppm plus - highly dangerous. I got the family out, killed the gas supply and vented the house.
Well, the boiler was condemned, we now have a balanced flue (takes air from outside and exhausts through same pipe) condensing boiler, so do not need a detector now, but am still using it 'just in case'.
I am convinced that this detcector saved my family's life - I detected nothing (CO is odourless / colourless and rises to where you are sleeping). If you have an older boiler / heater that draws air from the interior GET ONE - PLEASE
Given the recent tragedy in Greece due to undetected CO - a travel version seems an excellent idea.

I happened to be searching for CO detectors today as our British Gas one had run out of juice.
I found a couple of websites selling battery operated ones for 18.99 + postage
In the end I got a replacement one through British Gas - it's 22.99 but that includes, postage, batteries, 5 year guarantee - and as our last one lasted more like 8 years and it's easy to fix on the wall I though it would be easiest to get another of the same.

I'd much prefer a plug in detector, no need to check or change batteries. Then a bit of tape over the on/off switch on the wall socket so I cannot turn it off by mistake.
Really into the bit of tape over the on/off switch now ever since a 'kind' painter turned my freezer off by mistake !0 -
We are with british Gas and they do a yearly inspectio.
We have always been given one "FREE" at this check if it is coming to the end of its life. I cant remember if that is 2 or 3 years. I know it is not free so to speak as we pay for the gas insrance; but have been a bit cheeky in past by saying"you havnt got one of them CO detectors have you in your van....oh and would you like a cup of tea and a biscuit?"
Never failed so far. We pay something like £30 a month for the 3 or 4 star service ie call up if any problems and engineer comes out mends it with no further outrput for labour or parts.0
