My house is too big - struggling to sell :(

  • I agree it is definitely a top heavy house. There is no way it's a family home especially with only a yard at the rear. I don't think you're looking for a family I think it could only really be converted to flat or a HMO. Is it marketed as a business opportunity?

Yea I should have said "some parts", poor lowestoft has been badly hit by big factories and warehousing closed down, un employment is so very high there too................I
ts cheap cos not many people want to live there, even though it as a beautiful beach and good town centre.......No work......

lol,i thought the same for Edinburgh
nearly fell off my seat when I saw the price

Me too - we sold a larger house on the South Coast back in 2007 that we converted from four flats to a family home. It recently went under offer again after a week on the market at £650k ;) Our receptions and kitchen were bigger though - 20' x 14', 19' x 14' and 25' x 15', plus we had a conservatory - more in proportion with a property of that scale. We also had a relatively good garden (for a city) - 65' x 35'. If I was looking in your area for a family home a yard at the rear would not be sufficient, but guess that in its previous incarnation as a guest house that would be fine.

No floorplan would definitely put me off as I would want to see the layout of a house that size as otherwise it's difficult to visualise what room is where.

I agree that turning it back to a guesthouse or to student accommodation sounds like the best idea, but obviously your mum is going to have to be persuaded first.....

Hi, we've had our house on the market for a couple of months, only had 2 viewings and they both loved it but said it was too big! I think it is reasonably priced but not a cheap do-er upper so not really suitable for a developer, although I think it could probably be converted to flats. I guess we are in a tricky situation and have to wait for a large family or extended family looking in the area.

I've given notice with the Estate Agent as we have had no communication from them at all but can anyone make any other suggestions?

For a 6 bedoom house it's actually vey small. Fom the outside it looks like a faily small end of terrace with a possible extension to the top....

Inside the rooms look small, so it doesn't have the 'feel' of a true 6 bed house - if that makes sense? It looks like it was once a small end of terrace that's been converted, but badly so. The oom are all higgledy piggleldy and kind of squahed in anywhere.

Why the bedoom downstairs? That's just taking up room.

The second floor kitchen is galley style and naow. There's just nothing spacious about the house, there's too many ooms for its size.

I'd open the rooms up by knocking some walls down and making some space. Becasue the house itself is actually small, if all the rooms were tenanted it would feel overcrowded and cramped.

Despite that I'm supised no-one's shown any interest considering how cheap it is. Why is it so cheap can I ask?

Not cheap in that area, actually a tad on the overpriced side.

Why on earth is Blackpool so cheap???????
  • Oversupply of low-priced, low-quality B&B and guest house accommodation.

Within 2 miles, nearer Stanley Park or Kingscote Park and away from the seafront, you can spend the same money on a 2-bed flat.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • How is that house so cheap.. i don't understand you couldnt buy a 2 bedrom flat for that much where I live.

Is up north really that bad lol
  • I think the problem is that the area has chased room rates down because there have been slim pickings.

Most places can't make any money so there are lots of desperate sellers going bust.

There was a desperate hotel owner on here a year or so ago.

Most places are neglected so need loads of work/money and there currently is no demand to get any return so no investors picking up the stock except at rock bottom prices.

What work is there to attract families.

Is this the sort of place a family would invest into?

Is the plan to move somewhere with or without mum?
