The Google maps web version is barely usable for walkabout navigation.
This is what the real controversy is about.0 -

I'm perfectly happy to have my front seat passenger use it as a SatNav, so it would seem that I've lost the 'follow my location with a blue dot on the map' functionality, if I'm reading these posts correctly....0 -

You've always been able to do that, it's not a new feature in iOS 6.
I've been going on the assumption that I was gettting better YouTube performance on the Pad, and not on the home PCs, because the data was being delivered directly to the App, rather than via the browser. On desktops and laptop, YouTube stutters and has sound glitches when driven through Chrome, IE etc. Using the Pad, via the same router, and WiFi, it was smooth. Looks like I no longer have the choice.
Pinning may well be a feature of OS5 and earlier, but it wasn't immediately apparent it was available.0 -

Ouch! The Google Maps website is PANTS when compared to the pre IOS 6 integrated app, especially when you are fumble fingered while walking around. Anyone who understands the benefits of this app must AVOID moving to IOS 6.
Cons of the "web app"
1. Compass integration is GONE with Gogle Web app. You cannot tell which direction you are facing. This is almost my most-used feature to prevent me walking down long London streets in precisely the wrong direction!
2. Valuable screen space is lost to browser functions.
3. Many more taps needed to achieve a task.
4. Safari browser locks up sometimes on Google maps "web app", not easy to reset.
5. Easy to lose place on the screen - long scrollable web page.
Remember, with IOS 6 there no going back!0
