If the neighbours car insurance will repair the damage, I would offer to pay half of the excess.

He/she may have protected no claims bonus as well. Maybe 'unfair' but insurance is there for a purpose.

    HI
I dont wish to claim off the neighbours insurance as i see no reason he shpu;d have to face an increased premium in the future but i was told by another mum that there maybe some public liability element of house insurance? i do not know wether this is true but the other boys mum is keen to see if it is as it took place outside thier house.

    No.

Public liability insurance covers the householder against things like the wind blowing a roof tile off and clouting your friendly postman on the noggin.

Stuff like that. Not what you're hoping I'm afraid.

You obviously weren't reading the same post as me?

Her son caused £700 of damage to the neighbour's car. She's already managed to get that amount halved, courtesy of the neighbour.

Now it's a "can I claim the rest off of someone else's home insurance".

    Why?

Why should other customers from the same insurance company face increased premiums?

And the phrase "he is incredibly easy to influence" is used all too readily as an excuse for anti-social behaviour these days.

The OP needs to take responsibility for her child's actions (a novel concept with the current generation I'll grant you) and cough up.

as has since been mentioned i was intending on going halves with the other boys mum and if there is any public liability part of home insurance on the other boys home then they pay thier premium for the privilage to claim from it if the need arises.
I would not dream of trying to claim from the neighbours insurance as it would not be fair and had you read my post properly then i am sure you would have understood it better.

as opposed to boys throwing a brick over the 6 foot back wall and clocking the neighbours car should have guessed. ta

I think you misunderstand the purpose of insurance :money:

    [QUOTE=vickyj;
to cut a long story short a neighbours car was damaged.
The damage is likely to come to about £700 the other mum and i have agreed to go halves on the repair bill.
like most people i really could do without a £350 repair bill right now so what i was hoping is that there may be some part of house insurance that maycover this kind of thing.

Vicky, I'm no expert, but have you checked YOUR household insurance for Personal Liability cover?

Just had a quick look in mine, an it says

"we will insure you foa all sums which you become personally legally liable to pay for accidents that are not connected with you owning or occupying your home. These accidents must result in:
    1) bodily injury or illness of any person (but not any memeber of your household) or
    2) loss of or damage to property.

In the same way as you are insured, we will also insure each memeber of your family, who permanently lives with you. Each will be insured for all sums which the become legally liable to pay for accidents happening in, around, and away from your home."

Check if you and/or the other boy's mother have this cover, then you would hopefully only have to split any excess.

It is also totally fair, as it is your insurance you are claiming from and that's what it is there for and what you are paying your premiums for.

    Good luck!

If she has and pays for Personal Liability cover, then the purpose of this insurance is to cover exactly this.

I believe she has already conceded that her child lugged a brick over a 6 foot back wall.

Not entirely sure insurance ever covered deliberate acts of vandalism but, given today's standards, anything's possible.

But let's count our blessings.........the brick could have hit some innocent person minding their own business on the head and killed them.

    Eh?

You mean "someone else should pay"?

    Yep, that's about right.

Whatever happened to taking responsibility for the actions of your children?

It's a sound concept............it was important in the generation that I was brought up in.

I wonder at what point you'll grasp, and understand, the paradox between

"The two mothers of the boys involved are going halves on the repair bill. where is she not taking responsibility?"

    and

"I don't blame her for asking if there is anyway it can be claimed on the house insurance it's a lot of money to find for a child's accident"
