Os daily 22 Sept 2012 This is the Daily thread for Saturday 22 September 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Very early good morning to all
I didn't manage to get on here at all yesterday. I zonked out with painkillers and lack of sleep at 5.30am Friday after a sleepless night. My sister couldn't get into the house at 10.00 because she forgot her keys, so phoned, yelled through the letterbox, phoned my DH at work etc. She even got my neighbour to climb over the back fence to see if she could see anything. The workmen were laughing in the street as she was yelling 'Wake up - some of us got up at 6am!' I slept through the dustmen, recycling people, someone drilling up the pavement and people working on a loft extension, and all that with the front bedroom window open. I'm such a light sleeper normally, but the house could've fallen down around me and I'd've slept through it, so no wonder she panicked. When I eventually surfaced, she'd cleared my entire front garden of stuff to the dump as DH refuses to do it, reorganised the various bins and was having her car professionally cleaned. She says she's never been chatted up by so many men in her life - they fell over themselves helping her at the dump! We then settled into an afternoon of decluttering and cleaning, for which I paid her to cover childcare costs, petrol, car-cleaning etc. She did a sterling job as always, and is coming back next Friday to help me clear the patio of all the plastic pots etc. I think she enjoyed the day without Mum and her two daughters making constant demands; she doesn't get a lot of free time. Made me realise how lonely the past 7 weeks have been - she's the only person I've really seen to talk to. I don't count Mum staying last weekend because really that's just hard work as she's so self-absorbed, and I don't feel I have enough emotional resources at the moment to give. I expect I'm boring to talk to at the moment though; I freaked my sister out by crying yesterday. Not like me at all - I've always been the strong one in the family. I'm welling up now and I have no idea why! Grr, kick up the backside for myself.
I was still tired last night so crashed at 9.00 and of course got up at 3.30 this morning. Thought I'd leave it a couple of hours before starting the daily thread. It's so cold here I succumbed and put on the heating for 30 minutes, but have turned it off again now. Will need to sort out PJs or nightie for tonight - I'm not used to feeling cold after 20 years of Graves' disease. It's too early really for much housework without waking DH (he won't surface till gone 9.00), but I can get the bread machine and washing-machine/tumble-drier on in the meantime.
One of the cats managed to get shut in the tumble-drier for 15 hours. Bless her - no 'accidents' and I think she probably enjoyed the uninterrupted sleep. One of the reasons I was up all night Thursday was because I couldn't find her, and the sneaky moo didn't miaow so I kept opening the front door, thinking she'd got shut out. DH said when he opened the TD door yesterday morning, she blinked, yawned and went back to sleep. She's moved to a suitcase now, and I have various feline bodies scattered around as close as they can get to the radiators.
Half of my house is amazingly tidy and clean, and the other half is a tip, so that's my occupation this weekend. I've got 2 bags of paperwork to file and shred; that'll be a big job because I have random medical stuff and the details from 4 different company pension schemes to organise. Am going to sort out the shelves above my PC now that I've cleared them; I want my paperwork nearby in lever arch files as I always used to have. I was utterly ruthless in what I threw out yesterday - feathers, years-old pine cones and conkers, odd bits of metal and plastic. I've no idea where this stuff comes from - maybe the cats bring it all in. Going to prioritise the bedroom and rope DH into helping change the bedlinen and put clean clothes away later. Didn't really eat yesterday (had a Daim bar in the evening) but have just had cheese on toast - no idea if that was Thursday's dinner or Saturday's breakfast or what! I remember eating a proper meal on Wednesday night but that's it.
The Saturday market will be on today so I'll trundle up and get stuff for the week - spuds, apples, carrots, green veg. Am definitely going to make carrot & coriander soup again for lunches this weekend; stepdaughter had a Tesco c&c soup Thursday night and I was quietly proud of how much tastier my own was. Will do roast chicken legs tonight if I can get to the second freezer in the study any time soon. Payday is Tuesday when we'll do the main Costco trip so I don't need to buy much until then.
Got some healing issues with my incision - the bottom part of it is still open after 5 weeks, and yesterday it splurged blood instead of just weeping. It seems to crack open every time I sleep. It doesn't hurt but it wouldn't surprise me if I had a small infection in there. Am due to see the neurosurgeon next week so will discuss then. NHS won't touch it as the surgery was done privately. Think my underactive thyroid is delaying the healing and contributing to my extreme tiredness. Anyway, it'll all get sorted out sooner or later. Just hope the neurosurgeon doesn't tell me I need more time off work; I want to go back to work when this next week is done. I'm very impatient with myself when I'm under par.
Have a good day, everyone - hugs all round"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Oh dear Tiglath you are in the wars aren't you pet,be kind to yourself and try not to expect too much of your body I know its hard but patients have to have patience iyswim.Take one day at a time and do what you can and just leave the rest until you are feeling more invigourated.(I'm a fine one to talk as I hate feeling poorly as well) but I speak from experience. There comes a time when you just have to put life on hold for a bit and pamper yourself for a change Its still there to carry on with when you are feeling stronger.
I'm up with the larks today because two cats were romancing quite loudly in my front garden (well under my car by the sounds of it) I am a light sleeper so it doesn't take me long to wake and once awake its easier to get up.
My DD went to the theatre last night and had a meal out with her collegue,s and sensibly left her car at work (so She could have a glass of wine) So I've been roped in to drive her into work this morning. She only ever drinks one glass as she's not much of a drinker but she wouldn't take a chance on driving.
Eldest DD is coming this afternoon instead of tomorrow morning for our coffee and natter so I will knock up a lemon drizzle cake this morning as its her favourite.A[part from a small bit of ironing not much else to do apart from have a pottering around day I think.maybe a tidy up in my computer room of a few odds and ends of shredding that needs doing.A quiet day ahead I think (fingers crosssed anyway)
have a good one what ever you are doing its supposed to be bright today and rainy tomorrow and the nights are realing drawing in now .Still not got the heating on as yet though
Cheers chums

Morning all
It's supposed to be dry today & raining tomorrow, so I started the washing machine going yesterday when I got home from work & hung the first load on the line first thing. I have one more load to do so I'm hoping to get it all dry today, I also cleared the kitchen table yesterday as it gets covered in paperwork & other carp.
Hubby is off to work soon, his packup is ready to go. I shall try to do all my housework & cooking today so I can spend some time with him as he isn't working tomorrow.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning :hello:
Tiglath look after yourself.
Sistercas good luck to your DD.
We went shopping early yesterday and spent the rest of the day being quite lazyIt felt really wintery so we had pie, mash and spring greens for lunch, lazed on the sofas watching telly then made cakes and ate some for tea.
There's not much to do today, I'll sort the kitchen out (it's not too bad, but I like it gleaming), clean out the guinea pigs and run the carpet sweeper over the lounge.
Still haven't made those candlesBulletproof0 -
Good morning all,
Bright here today. There is a chill in the air at the moment though.
Tiglath, hugs to you. You are having such a rough time at the moment.
JackieO, enjoy your (hopefully) quiet day.
sistercas, i hope your DD settles in at uni. I'm sure there will be lots of emotions.
Hubby had a car accident yesterday. A driver pulled right out infront of him. The policeman said that our car will be a right off. Looking at the damage to our car i can't believe he wasn't seriously hurt. He still hit the other car but swerved to avoid full impact into the other driver. He ploughed into a tree and a wall with metal railings. Not a good day.
Washing to be done today. I may go shopping later on, if not i will have to go tomorrow.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Good morning all. Was chilly and very wet here last night.
Good luck too all doing the uni run this weekend. We are slowly becoming use to being a family of 4 rather than a family of 6 as twins are both in uni now.
It is ds 3 18th birthday today. He is currently in the land of nod as went to a party last night. Won't wake him just yet.
school uniforms in the wm, dw is on as everyone forgot to switch it on last night. Woofer crept upstairs last night, when I got up at 6 he was curled up on ds4 bed. Dead to the world he was.
General tidying today, have a Tesco delivery due this morning, took advantage of the £10 voucher and free delivery code from the last order because it was a total nightmare, big box of washing powder had a hole in it and when the driver handed it over most of it has emptied all over my lounge floor.
Thats about all for now. Have lovely weekends all.Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0 -
Morning all:j:j
Chilly here, but better than yesterday when I felt cold all day long.
Not a lot going on here at the moment.
Today we need to get some shopping done. We just need some Veg and a Joint of something for tomorrow.
The twins are getting on well at school.
Twin two came home yesterday with a certificate for Good thinking and Talking. :T:T
They are both really good deep thinkers. Some of the stuff they work out and come out with is priceless:)
Well I hope that you all have a great day.
Enjoy:j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -

Good morning everybody
tiglath, I know how you feel being impatient with yourself...for the first part of this year I had a terrible neuropathic pain problem in my head..I had to have 3 months off work and was so angry and upset with myself. Luckily my problem got sorted very quickly in the scheme of things, but it made me really be able to empathise with those who have long term conditions. I hope you feel more yourself soon.
I don't know why I am awake...I usually have a huge lie in on a Saturday and I am convinced that is what helps me get through the rest of the week! I may stay in bed for a while and see if I can doze off again
Not too much housework to do this weekend - just a bit of tidying and a couple of loads of washing. I do have quite a bit of marking to do, though...I'd rather do housework! I love my job but hate hate hate marking, it is the bane of my life.
My sister is coming round this evening for home made pizza and movies. It should be fun but she can be slightly hard work, so I am wondering what mood she will be in.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!0
