It is astonishing that the police officer who was apparently called a pleb in Downing Street can feel justified in making a such an issue of this at a time when two of his colleagues have lost their lives so tragically.

He did not choose the timing but rightly reported improper behaviour.

Every policeman in the UK is an officer because each one holds the office of constable. It is the holding of that office that confers their extra powers as police officers.

Any chance of getting back on topic, now? rolleyes.gif

    Not confused, just correct.

You wanted a link? Here are 3,plenty more via Google
    .

Shame the first two links use "police officer" to refer to them at all stages of their careers - from and including constables.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    Very confused and totally incorrect.

    Police Officer Recruitment:
Eligibility criteria for the role of police constable

And from my local police force:
    http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/About-us/Our-People/Our-People.aspx
There are 1,972 regular officers working for our police force, supported by 344 Special Constables, 171 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and 1,409 police staff.
Our police officers perform a wide range of duties. These include responding to emergency calls, providing a reassuring presence in the community, helping protect the public from violence

Don't need one , they start as cadets, move to constables, sergeant, then officer.

I have not seen one, but I would be pretty certain that the contract of employment would state constable..

I spoke to a traffic cop the other day who informed me he was a "traffic officer" when I asked for his number it was PC****, now what do you think PC stands for in that instance?

Their job title below officer is constable, they are not officers.

    .

    Totally incorrect mate.
    Cadet
    Constable
    Sergeant
    Inspector
    Chief inspector
    Superintendent
    Chief superintendent
    Deputy chief constable
    Chief constable

Or very similar for each force, different names for each position.

All except cadets are officers of the law and are "police officers" when asked on rank they say either constable or superintendent etc.

    Your thinking of army terms
    House deposit £2800/£10000
    :j£7200 in 24 months = £300 a month:j

They show a list of ranks, constable is at the bottom, below the ranks of officers!

Could a constable tell an inspector to do something? No
Could an inspector tell a constable to do something? Yes.

Stop elevating constables to something they are not, they are constables, hence the PC before their number on their shoulders!

    .

Can you use the other gate on the way out, sir, you pleb.
  • Conversely, when they can easily end up being killed in what would appear to be the most innocuous calls, that idiot MP shouldn't have been so disrespectful as he is highly unlikely to ever do anything as important as to risk getting killed in the line of duty.

So who saved him then? Who took the risk of getting stabbed by the person? To save someone so ungrateful as that?

Just because two police got shot last week doesnt make them all hard working crime fighting angels.

Last week one got convicted for rape, two weeks ago a load got outed for lieing over the deaths of Liverpool fans, and last month a load more were linked with selling on confidential information to newspapers.

And lets not mention Stephen Laurence. The police like any other organisation has both good and bad and the fact that this leaked to the press faster than a 999 response call suggests its all people in Westminster laying politics.

    Stop jumping on their bandwagon.
Its like David Cameron dropping the story of him leaving his kid in a pub on the day Gordon Brown was making some big announcement. They are all a bunch of overgrown schoolkids with a power complex. (police and politicians).
