Don't let them do that to you!
If this problem results in them voiding your policy it will mean expensive insurance from a limited field companies prepared to cover you in future.0 -

Comply with whatever they want.0

Have they given you notice that they are invalidating your policy? If so what reason have they given?0

Well, it's been referred to the admin team for now, and the reason they're saying it's invalidated it's because of the fact that I live at uni (where the car is registered at)
Saying that, when you look for a quote. There's a red help bar that says
"Please enter your house name or number and your postcode and click 'Find Address'. Your car must usually be kept overnight at your home address. If this is not the case, please call us on 0800 056 3104 for a quotation."
The address I live in is where I usually live and it IS technically my home0 -
Yes, similar wording is on their website

I think they are taking it too literally. I don't think they actually mean that they can't accept dual postcodes (because that phrase really means nothing).
They just need to accept that uni is your main home. It really shouldn't matter where your home address is - as long as the car is usually kept at that address then they are getting the appropriate premium for the risk.0 -

That's what I would have thought as well, because tonnes of uni students have car insurance. Surely if they had such a policy, they'd be losing out on a market of thousands of people? - the very same people that they're trying to market the product at(Hastings Smart Miles is specifically targeted at young people) It all seems very odd behaviour from Hastings
I'll be complaining about the guy who I talked to. The woman who I talked to gave me the same story, but at least she was polite about it, and you could tell she was following a script and she wasn't rude whereas the guy I talked to was more like
"Why do you want to see the t's & c's" where I bloody well replied that I should be entitled to see it as a customer of Hastings Smart Miles. We went around in circles for about 20 minutes or so, but I've yet to see any t's and c's that confirm what either of them say to me0 -
Just wondering if I was to complain to any one higher than Hastings, who should I go to?
Also, if they were to invalidate my insurance based on the terms that I supposedly have a "dual post code", then would it be possible for me to sue them if I have to pay much higher premiums as a result of the invalidation, considering the terms and conditions they gave me do not mention the word "dual" or "two" once, and the university address IS my home0 -
You cannot escalate a complaint till you have first exhausted their complaints procedure. It will be set out in the policy docs.
If they do cancel your policy and you win any appeal over this then you can expect to be recompensed for any expense the wrongful cancellation causes you.0
