Thanks for the new thread
. I went over budget last month, so want to try doubly hard this month. Even though we are away for 5 days self catering, I'd still like to aim for £260 for the month starting 3oth sept. Did stock up on meat today so shouldn't need to buy too much of that in October.

I also arrived home to a notice from the postoffice saying something I'd purchased online from the USA had arrived but I had to pay £11 customs duty on it. I'm contacting the company as I paid rather exhorbitant fees for postage on it in the first place and its only a tiny parcel!
Not happy.
Other than that...alls well in my world. I've got some chocolate and nuts so making chocolate covered cocoa nib and nut drops later... thats my treats for the next few weeks sorted!Hi I feel for you I had a 13.00 customs charge because I thought I would save on postage I bought two of the same item, it seems you are now only allowed to buy something for 13.00, if I had made two separate buys I would not have incurred the charge, postage is not counted in this, thankfullly as I would have had to pay more custom charge.
There's some really good guidance here on the HMRC web site about buying goods on the internet. From memory for these small purchases the majority of your payment is the handling fee charged by the postal operator - £8 last time I paid. What you are paying is the VAT and their costs to contact you, store your goods, and then process your payment and deliver to you (none of which is passed on by the Company you buy from.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
