I just checked my 2 accounts - I hardly ever use the one linked to my private Ebay account as I don't have time to sell on there much.
Anyway they are both premier accounts, i had not realised, so I guess I need to change the private one to something else? micro?

It never hurts to have a micro account for those smaller sales.

I am just looking into how to change my account?
Do I need to downgrade to personal?
Micropayments seems to be for business payments of under £5

Ignore the stupid things paypal say, you can change the premier into a micro and it isn't just for businesses. It works out better for payments under £9 (or thereabouts).

However, someone else may have to talk you through the change as it took me ages (but then paypal hate me)

  • I am so glad I found this thread or I would not have checked my Paypal. I can't remember upgrading from a personal to a premier account but I must have done!
This forum is a god send!
  • Well that just gets even more bonkers.....

More than one ebay account is ok

More than one Paypal account is ok or is not ok?

    Why?

I think it makes perfect sense. One paypal account of each type is more than sufficient as there is virtually no need to run two. However limiting a user to just one ebay account would be problematic as it makes excellent sense to keep buying and selling seperately- as well as keeping business and private sales apart for DSR reasons.

For us ebay thickies out there, why?

Also, if both of those accounts are linked to a common Paypal account, whether it be business or personal, all funds from the different ebay accounts would be moving through a single ebay account.

I take your point regarding keeping business/ personal Paypal transactions separate, which is what I used to do with my business.

There are a tiny percentage of malicious users out there who think it clever to get revenge. So if you have issues with a seller and leave poor feedback, or even if they 'think' you have left them poor stars or anything they can make mischief by buying back from you.

I have had people try and wreck my account and it isn't fun. Always keep buying and selling apart.

  • Ok, I have never thought of it like that.

Going back to Paypal, my original reason for setting up two accounts was due to ebay buyers opening cases because I wouldn't take back items, or the buyers didn't like what they had bought.

The open cases caused issues with Paypal as I am sure you know, and being able to run another Paypal account whilst cases were sorted out (it takes weeks sometimes). allowed me to carry on selling without issue.

Perhaps not the right way to do things, but it does help.

That's exactly why they don't allow 2 accounts. If you have issues on one then using a second is likely to get your restricted *very* quickly, as the point of holds on money is to focus the seller into sorting the issue out quickly.

If a sale is disputed though only the funds for that transaction (or equivalent) are held, you can still use the account meanwhile.

Also of course if you do have issue they tend to happen without notice, which means you wouldn't be able to switch your payments to another account if the auctions are already running with bids.
