We already have a system a bit like that, except the civil servants take the money off other people and it's often given to the ones with kids who are not paying any income tax.
  • Our prime minister wage is £ 18 000 per year. So I think its explaining everything : ) actually she is receiving twice more as our head of government.

after these cases are exposed we are told that the press is picking on the rare odd case , but these stories do tend to keep appearing sothen it makes you think if they are exposing just the tip of the iceburg . why is this still going on , no one should be getting so much if they are on benefits whatever their situation

exactly, if you are receiving benefits, then why you are smoking, why you are going to expensive trip around the word, why you are spending money for exclusive clothes, fast-food, TV games stations, car, super bingo, etc.. it is absolutely wrong. I can see only one good point overall- benefits going to heat economics, so its is like returning into supermarket profit and another places to make working-places and wages for people who are working. But the same time- it is really sad to see human- looking vegetables by generation doing nothing. we also have people in Latvia who are living on benefits and they are even not trying to do something to get better life, but our benefits will never allow to spend money for fancy unnecessary things, just to cover basic needs.

It's all about socialism, an ideology based on taking away from those who have to give to those who have not without regard for effort, just reward, incentive, or common justice.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Is that our Royal family you are referring to there?

Oh dear, oh dear, what a trite and tired old leftie jibe.

You might prefer to have President Blair and First Lady Cherie, but I'll wager that the considerable majority would not.

There are probably very few families where they have ten children and are claiming these amounts of benefits compared to the total number of benefits claimants. The press like to sensationalise them and stir up public emotion.

I imagine though this 'proposed' £26k cap is going to hit her hard?

That's exactly what the media wants you to think -- if they show enough hand-picked hardship cases we will assume it's a very widespread issue.

Last night on TV news they showed a couple where the wife is disabled and has fits so they sleep in separate bedrooms. Under the new housing benefit rules from April they stand to have support withdrawn for the second bedroom under the assumption that as a couple they don't need one. As an afterthought it was stated that a special local authority fund is being set up to address just such cases -- but of course, said the reporter, there is no certainty they will get any of it.

Fair enough, looks like a genuine case for an exception to be made. But why not portray that case if and when and after they are turned down as an exception as opposed to now ?

The answer of course is it's much better anti-government propaganda to do it now, in case they are accepted by the special fund and then there is no story.

Well I don't see many people on other benefits enjoying these luxuries ;)
